“The right has short, pithy things to say because they lie,” Halper replied.

She explained that clever jokes by conservatives aren’t actually funny because such people lack empathy and nuance. “Progressives are more nuanced, statistically speaking,” Halper said. The science is settled.

All the Left has to do is say “George Bush” and they get peels of Laughter.

I guess they'd think that Bush would be even funnier if he had caused as much damage in 8 years as Obama caused in his first year.

Netroots Nation used to be called Yearly Kos, because it was an annual meeting of the Daily Kos crowd. So we see the liberals are concerned they aren’t seen to have a sense of humor???

The crowd was most pleased with Russia Today’s Lee Camp, whose video mocked America’s regressive attitude on gays and oil drilling

I bet they'd get big laughs from a Grigori Aleksandrov film from this crowd too.

But, but, progressivism is a comedy.

Albeit a very sad, pathetic one.

One which makes the intelligent cry.

“So why do we so often sound in public like we’re stiltedly reading from a non-profit grant proposal?”

Because you all say the exact same f**king things almost VERBATIM.

It is even worse today when the only effort your average leftist twit puts into anything is to hit the “repost”, “share”, and “reblog” button on whatever some other drone dumped in their inbox.

I am amazed (not really) how easily I can break through their newspeak, corner them on their on nonsense, and force them to openly admit the totalitarian nature of what they believe or how they have no idea what they are even regurgitating.

Progressive "comedy" is to actual comedy as (per the Wendy's commercial) Soviet fashion shows were to actual fashion shows.

Next...Dayvear! Veddy nice. Next...Evening vear!"

Ummm, people who lie use more words....

Why do you think doublespeak is Double Normal Speak?

The problem with comedy is that there has to be a factual basis for humor to be anchored to for relevance.

When someone talks about the checkers at the Wal-Mart, going to the post office or a conversation with your wife about soccer moms...it resounds because people can identify with their experiences...

The reason that the Left isn’t funny is unfortunately, after the 60’s, they have shifted the culture so far away from Ozzie & Harriet times via norms and immigration, there is no “common enemy” other than the sentimental boogeymen dreamt up by the Left...so no factual basis for comparison.

Bush, Koch Bros., Fox News, Palin are the Pavlovian dog examples of the Media pushing their agenda via repetition, but when you have utter failures from Obama, Pelosi, Kerry, Clinton, Lerner, Holder, Jarrett...Soros, Gates, Buffett, Zuckerburg, etc. and the literal freakshow of MSNBC and CNN, you realize the only people laughing are those who buy the lies.

Liberalism does not enhance anyone but the top 1/10th of 1%, it derives power by tearing others down, which is exactly what they accuse the Right of. Taxation, regulation, a controlled press, etc. are really not funny.

Case in point, how many North Korean, Iranian, Soviet or Chinese comics are there? Yes, when the come to the West they can speak, bu they cannot speak there.

The Left isn’t funny because if they had their dream, we would be in breadlines, barracks and barbed wire.

As it happened, I was attending the North American Science Fiction Convention in Detroit at the same time Netroots was meeting. People from both conventions were staying at the Marriott, although I believe Netroots was meeting at nearby Cobo Hall whereas we used meeting rooms at the Marriott. I'd see the Netroots people at mealtime, or in the hallways. All sorts of "progressive" and left-wing slogans on their tee shirts. Joe Biden was scheduled to speak at Cobo Hall last Thursday. We were warned about traffic congestion, so I made a point of arriving at the hotel before his speech. I think we had more fun than the Netroots people did.

"Progressives are more nuanced, statistically speaking,” Halper said.

Here "nuanced" is used in the sense of "believing two mutually exclusive ideas simultaneously." It isn't a good thing.

She listed several types of jokes that no one should tell; anything involving a “disenfranchised population” is off-limits.

Unintentional humor, I'm sure. But all of the populations to which she's referring have been enfranchised for a very long time.

To ensure a joke isn’t unintentionally offensive, Forlano even recommended running it by a professional comedian first.

There should be an official Party bureau in charge of humor. The people require guidance from Experts in humor as in every other facet in life, and she does mean every other facet.

Halper is a founding principal of Qualified Laughter, a production company “dedicated to comedic social justice media.”

Hmm...well, the feller who asked "So why do we so often sound in public like we’re stiltedly reading from a non-profit grant proposal?” wasn't kidding. When the mere utterance together of four perfectly legitimate words in the English language instantly drains them of any semantic content, it isn't any surprise that it drains them of humor as well. Or perhaps I'm missing the "nuance".

So why are vouchers so justifiably vilified? Where to start! As I have written previously, school voucher programs, which allow parents to use public dollars to pay for private education, are not only ineffective but they fail to address the rampant inequality that plagues our nation’s schools and weaken the public school system as a whole. Despite these facts, voucher schools are on the rise — and many of them are religious schools using public money to teach a distorted version of reality, which I had thought only existed 50 years ago or in over the top parodies of the right wing.
