If you are monitoring a select population, you might expect that you are going to find more of whatever you are looking for than among the general population subject to whatever medical care passes for normal these days.

That’s 6.8% some 12 years after.

National average is around 0.5% ... but that’s _new_ cases for _everyone_. The young tend to not contract it, and once contracted it spans several years.

So... 0.5%/yr cumulated over 12 years is about 6% for the general population. The 9/11 responders & cleanup were adults at an age where some 12 years later they’re at increased odds of developing cancer (thirty-somethings then are approaching 50 now).

Ergo, 6.8% is statistically normal given/despite the disingenuous presentation of the data.

Unless the $$$ is coming from Saudi Arabia I'd oppose huge settlements for these people.Of course it's easy to see how working the Ground Zero site might have caused cancers and other serious diseases.I'm sure physicians would be able to explain that in great detail.And of course they should get all the health care they need as well as disability pensions....and death benefits as well.

But the thought of filthy ambulance chasing lawyers getting a third of some big jury award against the city,state,Federal gov't,the Port Authority or the airlines makes my blood boil.
