Large Cat Seen Prowling Norwalk Neighborhood ‘Not A Mountain Lion’

NORWALK (CBSLA.com) — Wildlife officials were set Friday to canvass a residential neighborhood in Norwalk where a video surveillance camera captured what appeared to be a large wild cat – possibly a lion – prowling the area.

KNX 1070’s Bob Brill reports Norwalk Public Information Officer Jeff Hobbs said he has received confirmation that the animal “was not a mountain lion.”

The video footage dated July 29 – which captured images of the animal in front of a home in the 11000 block of Tina Street near Orr and Day Road – was sent to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, according to Hobbs.

The city of Norwalk is located about 8 miles southwest of the Turnbull Canyon mountain bike trail in Hacienda Heights, which has had some reports of mountain lion sightings in recent years.

However, Hobbs said officials have not yet determined exactly where the animal may have come from.

“I think most people are coming down on the side of, ‘Oh, that’s an old lion who’s just looking for something to drink,” he said.

In the video footage, the animal appeared to have a mane and looked more like the type of lion seen at a circus or zoo and appeared to be non-aggressive.

A representative from the Department of Fish and Wildlife will be visiting local residents to “pass out literature and let them know what’s going on,” Hobbs said. Authorities say they will respond to reports of a actual sighting as opposed to just a video.

Authorities say anyone who encounters the animal should treat it as potentially dangerous and notify law enforcement officials immediately.

I find it amusing how many people will obey a stupid law such as a no guns law.

yeah, well, she was Canadian, I don’t know how else to explain it.

You know, even in the worst situation, even with the craziest person you might be able to persuade them.

Remember the story about the criminal who took that woman hostage, and she read to him from that book “the purpose driven life” and he gave himself up the next day?

Well, you won’t be reading no book to no mountain lion, let’s just say that.

It’s almost as if people obey laws because they don’t trust themselves not to harm someone else. Oh no, I won’t carry a weapon because I might hurt my child or my wife.

The Norwalk in CT has had them, but they are more prevalent in the NW part of the state.

My brother taught me to drive in Turnbull Canyon as well. He let me drive his Austin Healey, with himself in the passenger seat, up and down that road until I got the hang of a stick shift and knew how to take a curve. Good thing we didn’t get stopped; that
was before I got my learner’s permit. I was 14.

He was a really cool guy, my favorite sibling, 12 years my senior, but young at heart.

Seems like there is quite a number of Freepers from that area. I have been surprised at the amount of my school friends that are conservatives. I went to Santa Fe High, but got married in my senior year and finished at Whittier.

I went to Bishop Amat Memorial in La Puente. All my friends went to
Puente HS, which was about a quarter mile from my house, but NO! I
had to go to Catholic school.

I also got pressured by the nuns into going to Immaculate Heart College
in Hollywood.

That was a mistake.

I married Hubby when I was 32. Coming up on 35 short, happy years.

Hubby 1.0 didn’t work out. We were married for one year when I was 19-20.
He was a rock musician and couldn’t resist his groupies.

Never heard of them shooting catz.

Well, they do tend to stomp cats, birds, and other small animals to death, rather than wasting
their precious bullets on them.

And preferably when there are as many women and children in the room to see the carnage
as possible.

Previously, I was always on the side of the police, but we no longer have police. They are
being trained to be oppressive, harmful, cruel, stupid JBTs, and they have lost me forever.

OMG -- obemba Must GO!

Problem is, mountain lions’ heads are smaller relative to the size of their bodies.

Which Norwalk? Why can’t posters post the darn name of the city AND THE STATE OR COUNTRY?

Norwalk, California

The news source is based in Los Angeles, therefore, since no other state is named in the article, the California location is in view.
