I guess yellow jackets have their purpose, but I just can’t like them. Worst stings of my life have been from them when I was a kid.

I just haven’t been able to quit holding that grudge.LOL

It is pot bound and will not spread.

I've had them self-seed all over my yard!

Well, we didn’t manage to get the herb harvest done this weekend. Instead, we went to the farm and salvaged another load of barn wood for my mower shed.

Another half dozen trips over there and I should have enough for the project. I’m only good for about two hours of demolition at one time. My old bones are achy...

My hubby has been helping me with gardening. We have had a rocky marriage for many years — finally we are getting to the sweet stage. I have really enjoyed sharing this learning experience with him and he’s enjoying it too. It’s brought us closer together. This is like tending a marriage garden — a lot of hard work, a lot of missteps, some things won’t work, but if we are lucky many lovely things will take root.

That’s such good news. We have been married for 49 years, with lots of stability for many years now, and we are really enjoying our experiences too.

Anyone:
I love my Beefsteak tomatoes’ taste (first year growing tomatoes).

Do any other types compare in taste and convenience?

We won't be going on the northeast trip any time soon. You think you have your act together and plans made and some guy T bones our SUV on my side. This happened a week ago today. I was put on a backboard by EMTs and taken to hospital. A cscan determined no broken neck vertebrae. I've been wearing a neck brace since then as my head doesn't want to turn to the left, bad pain and that side is swollen. Doc gave me muscle relaxant pills.

SUV was totaled as the hit bent the frame as well as “bent” my neck. Bob was okay.

He's dealing with insurance people and adjusters and within a day or so, we'll have to find another SUV. Sometimes, things go bump and that was a big bump. The guy who hit us wasn't hurt and he was yelling Bob hit him. Our car would have to go sideways to hit him. Later, Bob said he was watching the guy and if he had come forward at him in an attacking way, the guy would have a broken ankle and probably a broken arm and be on the ground. Bob's background/training is such he could do that in a split second.

I don't think I said when I was at my house a couple weeks ago, I dug up the Egyptian Walking Onions and brought them here. Got two four foot long planters here and potting soil and stuck them in there to keep them alive until the weather is cooler in the fall, then will get a 4x4 raised bed and plant them there. No way was I going to leave my Walking Onions behind. :o)

Glad you are ok, generally. Still watching kidz. First day of school today, so I had two to pick up from school.

I’d rather deploy.

Oh, gosh, I am relieved you weren't seriously hurt, or killed. I am glad you were in an SUV, and not your little car.

Maybe you will be able to go on your trip when the leaves start turning in the NE. That would be something we don't have a lot of in TX.

So glad to hear from you. I was getting ready to start FReep Mailing everyone to see if any one had any updates on your condition.

Hope you get better soon. Any idea when you’ll be out of the neck brace?

Glad you’re both in decent shape; prayers for your neck and nerves.

Our car would have to go sideways to hit him.

Those dadburned SUVs just can’t be trusted.

Sometimes they just take off by themselves, and shoot up a neighborhood.

Sometimes, they go nuts, and decide to run down people on the sidewalk,

Other times, they just take a wild notion to go swimming.

First time though I’ve heard of one deciding to jump sideways into the front end of an innocent bystander’s car.

“I am relieved you weren't seriously hurt, or killed.”

I had not thought of that but a few days ago, Bob said if the blow had been about 30 inches father up my side of the car, I probably wouldn't be here or would be seriously hurt. As it was, the EMPs had to force open the door as the fender was pushed up blocking the door from opening.

For two days after the wreck, until he got a rental car, he was driving my Hyundai Elantra (I call it my plastic car). He is a big man (6 ft., 230 lbs.)and looked like he was stuffed in there driving a kiddie car.

Bob looked at my neck a while ago and said the swelling isn't as bad as two days ago. I'm hoping another three days and I can dump the collar.

The SUV is a 2008. It's going to cost thousands to replace it and the insurance won't be at all near what a new one will cost. I figure it will take $15,000 plus the insurance money to get another one. I looked at prices on the web and SUVs and all cars are so expensive now.

Sockmonkey, it is a good thing it was an SUV so I was sitting higher with more space and metal between me and that truck. The truck would have come farther into a lower car. SUVs are good to have for the protection.

When the EMT was getting me out of the car, I told him I had been an EMT so he yelled to his buddy EMTs, “She was one so she knows the drill.” They were more relaxed since they didn't have to explain to me everything they were doing.

“First time though I’ve heard of one deciding to jump sideways into the front end of an innocent bystander’s car.”
The front of the truck had the bumper torn off and the front was crashed in. Our “sideways traveling” SUV had the side crushed in.

After the other driver gave cops his information, he walked off. A cop drove Bob home so he could get my car and go to hospital where I was.

If you don’t have a list of your medicines in your purse, put one in. I was flat on my back, couldn’t move, and nurse wanted to know all my medicines. Crap, I couldn’t remember all the names. I now have a list in my purse.

Getting money from the Insurance Company-reminds me of a story I have. My youngest daughter wrecked my husband's car shortly after getting her driver's license.

The insurance company told us it was totaled, and made an appointment to give the check. Everyone told me that they would not really give us retail value, and after checking our policy, I noted that we were to get retail.

Hubby was really upset, because he wanted his car fixed. We found out that the insurance company had talked to a local car dealer that had a car like his, but a year older and more mileage.

So I went around to car lots in St. Louis in search of the same year model and less mileage. There were none. They all told me the same thing-they would love to have one, but there just weren't any with that low mileage.

They also gave me their business cards with a quote written on the back of the true retail value, and an invitation for the Insurance Adjuster to call them.

When the adjuster came to our house and presented the check I was very cordial, but told him that first, I had some questions:

1. I told him that folks had been telling me that the Insurance company wouldn't be giving me retail value, and asked him straight out. Do you assign retail or wholesale value when you determine the amount of the check. He answered retail value.

2. Isn't it true that the most significant things used to help determine value are the mileage, year, make and model?
He answered yes.

That's when I told him that I had a problem with his numbers. Gave him the stats that I had obtained, and showed him that the car was worth enough to fix it, according to his procedures and the true retail value.

At first he argued. I just told him that if he could find me a car of the same year, make, model and mileage, and buy it with that check then I would take the car. However, I told him that he wouldn't be able to find one, because there weren't any in our area or the greater St. Louis area either.

That's when he said “Well there's on right here in your town, at the Chrysler Dealer's for the amount I have used as retail value.”. Final nail in the coffin: I told him that I was aware of that car, and had inspected it - It was 1 year older, and had significantly more mileage, and a worse interior.

That being the case, he had obviously assigned less value to our car than he should have, because ours would have to be worth more than the car at the dealership. He said that he would have to talk to his supervisor.

A few days later, they agreed to fix the car. Hubby was happy, daughter was grounded, and we didn't have to make a car payment.

Daughter was grounded, because she was on a gravel road that we did not consider safe, and we had told her as a condition of loaning the car, that she had to agree to stay off that particular road. She was grounded for not honoring the agreement.

A pickup topped a hill in the middle of the road, and she slammed on the brakes, and spun out in the gravel and hit the ditch. She's lucky the car didn't roll, and to avoid a head-on collision.

Any way, glad you are progressing. My Dad was an EMT and later became a Paramedic. We always made sure that the EMTs, Docs, and nurses knew it. It made a big difference in the amount of info we got as well as helping the process.

Hope you are able to find a great SUV without too much ado and expense.

That reminds me, I need to change my list. Doc deleted some stuff, and I added a K2 supplement.

I have found that all the many varieties of tomatoes that we have grown are far superior in taste and texture to what laughingly passes a tomatoes at the supermarket chain stores.

Hubby just brought in a bunch of potatoes about 10 lbs. He had several monsters in the bunch that weighed around 2 lbs each.

Most of mine would be considered just small to medium for baking purposes. However I did get a few large ones in the supermarket volunters.
