“Declare War on ISIS “
The tools Obama has, which he won’t use against ISIS except as tokens, are like hitting ants with shotgun blasts. To fight ISIS would take finding them, which is probably no small task. Oh, you can find the ones attacking villages easily enough, but the ones we need to get are probably living amongst others and not dressed so conveniently in black with Arabic writing on their chest and backs. Finding those guys will take sandals on the ground and means lots of personal risk for those doing the work and political danger for those doing the sending.
Americans are conditioned that wars are pushbutton easy, clean and videogame-like. “Soldiers” go home at night and sleep in Reston or Williamsburg. Declaring war against a non-state actor is fraught with dangers today’s politicians will not accept. Instead they’ll look to recruit “moderates” who they will arm and train only to find they are arming and training either ISIS or something just like it.
Arm the Kurds to the teeth. They will take care of ISIS. Obama was a fool for not doing this in January, instead of copying up to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Send the United States Marine Corps with NO ROEs......
