Such a good observation. A classic is when everything comes together. The Dick Van Dyke Show is a perfect example, and the first few (Larry Gelbart) seasons of M*A*S*H.
I’m probably one of the few Americans that didn’t fall in love with M.A.S.H. I was never tempted to watch it, well for the most part. I have watched a few shows in reruns and enjoyed them.
Oh my -—, I got so tired of hearing the name Alan Alda at one point. It was like he was a god or something. I’m sure he’s a decent person and a good actor, they just laid it on so thick.
One night I went to Chuck’s steakhouse in Westwood, California. My date and I were sitting there having dinner, and Alda and a woman walked in and were seated right next to us.
I ate dinner less than five feet from the guy.
Generally speaking, if someone is big in the day, I don’t bother them. I figure they appreciate their privacy. I’m not generally the sort to approach someone like that.
The Nye situation I mentioned above is way out of Character for me.
I read once where parts of the script for Dick Van Dyke Show had large sections that just Read “Morey Amsterdam tells jokes” and let him rip.
