Since satellite records began in 1979, the winter maximum sea ice cover around Antarctica has been growing at 1.5 per cent per decade. This year has long been on track for a new annual record, with 150 daily records already set.

It's been summer in the Antarctic for several months now.

The tactic is to just say the stupidest things they can, and then tell you you're obviously an idiot if you can't understand their science.

It's the emperor's new clothes technique - old as storytelling.

"IT JUST gets bigger. The extent of the sea ice around Antarctica has hit a record high – for the third year running. Counter-intuitively, global warming is responsible."

...

"The extra sea ice is a good thing, as it reflects sunlight and slows global warming."

So, global warming stops global warming...? I fail to see how its a problem then.

The melting of ice on the Antarctic mainland may also be creating more sea ice, by dumping easily frozen fresh water into the ocean, says Nerilie Abram of the Australian National University in Canberra.

Unproven hypotheses are not science, Professor Abram. And by the way, how come NONE of the global warming models predicted this phenomenon, if it is true?

"That's because the southern hemisphere warms more slowly than the north, as it has less landmass,"

But...but....the global warming crowed is telling us that the reason warming appears to have stopped over the last 15 years is because the ocean is acting as a giant heat sink and disquising true atmospheric pressure. It that was true then the the Southren hemisphere should be melting at record levels. These guys are going to sprain their brains with all the mental gymnastics they go through trying to explain away why their theories don't conform to the observable data.

“By 2100 we will see dramatic reductions,” says Lieser.”

No kidding. Then by 2150 we will see another record in the amount of sea ice. It rises and it falls. These people are blithering idiots.

That’s the problem with a “new scientist”. The cycle of alternating size in the two polar regions has long been known and recorded.

Well of course. Us not “super sophisticated” rubes are too stupid to understand the dynamics involved. Oh yeah. Did the clowns go back and pick up their trash from Sunday’s farce? Or did the corporate sponsors have it done for them. You know, kellogs, starbucks and the list goes on.

Global warming (or climate change) is said to be responsible for floods, droughts, storms, cold weather, warm weather, ice caps getting smaller, ice caps getting larger and every other weather event anyone could possibly think of.

The important thing to understand is that global warming is only said to be responsible after the fact. The global warming “experts” have never been able to accurately predict anything. They have always been wrong. Their only ability is to create phony after the fact explanations.

You gotta cut to the chase.

There has to be global warming, and it has to be caused by humans,

else most leftist sheeperals have no cause for their own self-righteousness.

"By 2100 we will see dramatic reductions," says Lieser.

This is the secret. Express all of your predictions beyond the range of human adult lifetimes, ignore empirical data, and proclaim your computer models to be beyond reproach. Then all you need do is deposit the checks that the government keeps sending you to make these ridiculous statements.

I notice they don’t allow comments on their own site. Too bad.

So as it gets hotter in the Northern Hemisphere, ice melts faster in the Southern Hemisphere, which then freezes again making more ice. But in 85 years, it will melt again really fast, making double-plus-ungood things happen in the Northern Hemisphere.

The average high temperature in Antarctica in January, the warmest month of the year, is -18 degrees F, and the average low temperature in January is about -21 degrees F. If the temperature in Antarctica is -18 degrees F, it has to warm to 33 degrees F in order for ice to melt. So anywhere between -18 degrees F and +31 degrees F there will be no melting, regardless of the amount of warming. If it got to +31 degrees F, we would be in trouble, but that will take a lot longer than 85 years to add over 50 degrees to the temperature of Antarctica.

"By 2100 we will see dramatic reductions," says Lieser.

Can these guys set their models to the conditions of 1914, run a 100-year forecast, and have the forecast match what actually happened?

If they can, I'm certain we would have heard it trumpeted from the rooftops.

If not, their models are worthless.

..pulling cold air onto the sea ice ...

You do not pull cold air. It is dense. It goes where it wants to go.

You know I might believe more of this crap, if they predicted this before it happened. When Al Gore won his Nobel, the thesis was more hurricanes will be created by Global Warming (since that was right after Katrina one of the worst hurricane seasons in decades), since then there have been fewer hurricanes than normal, so the new mantra is the storms will be fewer but bigger. Wash, rinse repeat.
