I checked out the page at the link you posted. VERY interesting reading.
I’ve always found the NC barrier islands to be very interesting. It’s as if the ocean swallowed up the far eastern part of the state, leaving a narrow strip of land. Those were probably mountains tens of millions of years ago. I live in the Appalachian mountains(one of the oldest in the world), and it’s fascinating how they used to be as high and rugged as the Rocky mountains, but have been weathered down over time. The Appalachian/Blue Ridge mountains were also a natural barrier to the early Americans going West. People like Daniel Boone found a good way to get through it though.
