” They are obviously a law unto
themselves now. What a society. If they
are not held accountable in at least some
way for their cruel and excessive actions
they might even just get worse.”

They are getting worse. The don’t fear mistakes, and love authority and power. They watched as the cops in the Dorner hunt got away with their mistakes. Cops have watched many other mistakes, and learned that there is no price to mistakes.

.......I think your mostly right but what do you propose as an alternative to cops! I don’t want to go out there and fight the bad guys several nights a week!

I watched the two videos you sent. They make some good points. Thanks for sending. I think the Decatur vid consciously seeks to project a less confrontational force. I wonder if the data support that they are.

I could not agree with you more!

That said, even if you recruit the best and then on graduation day they walk out on to the street with a FORCE first ask questions when the smoke clears attitude what have you gained.

So, it definitely is an issue of recruiting better people but I think the attitudes of the guys at the top of the food chain need to change. Basically, they need to try a little harder to produce cops that are a little bit (some would say a WHOLE LOT) more judicious in their use and application of FORCE.

Notwithstanding any of the foregoing, cops are an essential element in our crime laden society and anybody who wants to throw the baby out with the bath water is smokin.

These multi million dollar settlements are getting pretty expensive.

I’m not advocating disbanding cops. I am advocating a far more critical monitoring of them. And stop with the action hero recruitment nonsense. When you recruit thugs and thrill seekers, that is what you’ll get.
