In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

pavonine \PAV-uh-nahyn, -nin\ adjective
1. of or like a peacock.
2. resembling the feathers of a peacock, as in coloring.

Example sentences:
In her hands the curtains rustle; she hangs silks purchased this morning on Princess Road, color stirring pavonine in the lamplight of her bedroom.
-- Kate Moses, Wintering: A Novel of Sylvia Plath, 2003

"The artists were attacked for being a narcissistic, pavonine, and self-regarding group."
--Arifa Akbar; The Cult of Beauty; The Independent (London, UK); Mar 29, 2011.

Etymology:
Pavonine is derived from the Latin word for peacock, pāvō, with the suffix -ine, a suffix of adjectives of Greek or Latin origin, meaning “of or pertaining to,” as in marine.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

the travel book I have tells you what London landmarks were used as backdrops for various things in HP things, so we will of course have to see all of those : ) I had asked Janice for suggestions for things like pubs etc. She sent me a list of the best fish and chips restaurants forwarded by some English friends.

One of my friends just returned from a trip there. She also went to Ireland and found she enjoyed London much more, the opposite reaction she expected. I’ll ask her if she has any tips. When are you going?

Just sent her a note. She works nights so I’m not sure when she’ll get it.

OH, boy. Another Bishop heard from. "Pope Francis is fond of creating a mess. Mission accomplished." They are striking back.

Strutting peacocks on Hollywood’s red carpet are as nothing compared to Obama ascending AF1 in pavonine splendor.

I usually just do a “refresh” on my browser when I am in the “preview” state for posting here on FR. If the image shows up again, we’re golden.

I was just in too much of a hurry this morning.

i’m sorry that the Flyers beat the Pens last night. I was really hoping that the Flyers would keep losing so that they could hire my beloved Disco Dan....
