STONEHAM, Mass —A store owner used chili powder to take down an armed robber who barged into a convenience store on Main Street in Stoneham late Saturday evening.

Brett Osgood, 25, of Revere was arrested and charged with armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and witness intimidation.

According to the police, Osgood went into the convenience store late Saturday evening and purchased a $2 lottery scratch ticket. A short time later, he allegedly returned with a man in his 40s who attempted to cash in a scratch ticket.

While Khan had the register open, one of the men drew a firearm and ordered him not to close the cash register.

Khan refused and told the men that he would not give them any money.

Surveillance video shows the second suspect hitting Khan several times in the face, but he broke away.

Video shows Khan throwing chili powder in the robbers' faces.

The robbers fled, but police said Khan followed them and made note of their license plate before calling police.

The license plate was registered to Osgood's residence in Revere, where he was arrested by authorities.

Police are still seeking the second suspect.

This is not the first time Khan has used chili powder to defend himself during a robbery.

In November 2012, a man pointed a gun in his face threatening to shoot if he didn’t open the register.

In that case, he also used chili power to help scare the robber away.

Osgood was arraigned in Woburn District Court Monday.

Is “Khan” the owner’s first or last name?

This is not the first time Khan has used chili powder to defend himself during a robbery.

Ban assault chili powder.

Or, my other favorite...

When the government bans chili powder, only criminals will have chili powder.

He’s an idiot. and damn lucky.
They didn’t want to shoot him in the first place.

Heaven help us if we’re reduced to using spices for protection.

Oh yes. Fun fact about ghost peppers: They have been used to make a repellent for wild elephants in India. Amazing.

Oh yeah. A friend and I used to scour Thai and other restaurants in search of sweet, torturous burn. Most were a joke with cayenne and jalapeno based concoctions.
When we tripped over a cook in a local bar using "ghost peppers" on the "Nuclear Hot" wings, we quit looking. He wadn't playin around. Hehehe. d:^)

Only in MA could this have happened.

If the robbers would have shown a gun in TX without actually using it, they would have been toast.
