Many Moons ago (as Rush would say) I was chief Pilot for a cargo outfit flying 3 DC-3s plus a stable of other types.
We tried to buy 3 C-123’s from Davis Monthan.
We went out there inspected the aircraft ,had the ferry permits in hand as well as a certified check. At the last moment they refused to sell us the aircraft.
When pushed for a reason, the guy said they thought the C-123’s were going to be used in the drug trade. even though we had a sterling reputation.
We bought 2 Casa’s instead.....

Wife and I flew in a spotless Air Liberdad DC-3 from Huatulco to Oaxaca Mexico some years ago. The airplane flew between the mountains at about 90 miles per hour and close enough to the ground that I could’ve shouted down to folks walking below.
I think the airplane had 25 seats. Most of the passengers were dressed in white with sandals. There were two or three businessmen and us Gringos.
Old Spanish Mexico is still alive and well in Oaxaca.

Last I heard C-123s couldn’t be flown in the US due to not being able to fly on one engine.
