Was grammy correct?
Grammy was always right. She just wanted me to come home directly from wherever I’d been (school, movies, playground, whatever).
I was watching John Stossel the other night interview some child rearing expert who was endorsing the cconcept of “free range kids”. I realized suddenly that I (who grew up in a highly sheltered existence) had really been a “free range kid”, long before it was a trend. So had my husband. Even my own kids, to a great extent, had been “free range kids”.
These ideas would never fly today. One difference is that our “free ranging” was done on foot, or bicycle, and in those days there was somebody home in almost every house you passed. Furthermore, your parents probably knew most of them by name, and they knew where you belonged.
