What people like this don’t realize is, the “joke” is on them. Sayings like “it’s a white thing to work hard” or “it’s a white thing to get good grades in school” or “it’s a white thing to speak proper English” all, by implication mean the opposite is true for black people.

In other words, “it’s a black thing” to fail in school, be lazy at a job, and speak almost unintelligibly.

In this woman’s case, by implication, “it’s a black thing” to have body odor? To be unhygienic?

Haha ok honey, whatever. You really put one over on us white folk, whew!

I can hear the retort to what I wrote above: it’s a black thing, you don’t understand.

Which is saying, “It’s a black thing to say stuff without thinking about the implications.”

Yeah, real noble trait there. And who’s the racist again?

In this case, the general statement about white people is a positive one. Kind of like saying, “Working hard, paying taxes and obeying the law is such a white people thing!”

While I am sure she did not mean it that way, her comment was really an insult to non-white people.
