IIRC, the reason she abandoned baby Moses was because pharaoh had ordered all male Hebrew slave children killed, to lessen the likelihood of future rebellion as the slaves were breeding prolifically.
I was meaning to point out that the practice of placing babies in baskets and left on doorsteps most likely has its origin in the story of baby Moses... once upon a time people knew these stories. The story of baby Moses is one of the Old Testament stories that left the biggest impression upon me as a very young child... probably because I recall an illustrated bible we had that had a color engraving of the basket being found amongst the reeds.
