WAYCROSS, Ga. - A NAACP activist said his recent experience participating in real-life situations with sheriff's deputies has motivated him to encourage city leaders to seek change.
Rev. Larry O'Hara was one of four people invited by the Bradford County Sheriff's Office to participate in scenarios in which they had to decide if their lives were in danger and if they should pull the trigger. The other three participants were News4Jax reporters Heather Leigh and Vic Micolucci and News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith, a former police officer.
During a traffic stop exercise, O'Hara shot an unarmed man who was reaching for his wallet.

Tell that to the thugs in Ferguson, MO. who pounced all over Officer Wilson's justifiable homicide.
God Bless our police.
Tell that to the FReepers who think that omniscience and prophetic vision are part of a peace officer’s job description.
WOW! I guess somebody experienced a “teachable” moment huh? IPOS speak long before any remaining brain tissue is activated. Guess the donut shop was off the agenda?
Just like hero
Wish I could remember the name of the drill I saw on a video a couple of weeks ago. Showed various ways of reacting when approached from 7 yards away by an attacker with a knife. It really makes you see how quickly an attack can happen and the split-second decisions that you have to make to defend yourself.
Sending this article on to Sheriff David Clarke in Milwaukeestan. I would LOVE to have him invite a few, select, Useful Idiots for a Ride-a-Long! :)
THAT is why you stay calm and say "Yes, sir" and "No, sir" no matter how wrong you think the cop is.
He/she has a supervisor and my experience is that they listen to legitimate complaints.

Friggin' SMURFS! You stomp on one, and 10 more pop up! *SMIRK*
A great young officer I know personally shot and killed an unarmed man last week.
One shot. 10-ringed him. DRT.
Any of us would have done exactly the same under the circumstances which I cannot describe here. He took it hard. Fortunately, he was out with four other experienced high quality officers (the A-team, really). They all said he was 100% right in the decisions he made. I hope he will be OK.

Not directed at your friend but is there ever a shooting where they dont back the officer?
Wow! Where on earth did you hear that information ..??
Most skilled officers are 10 steps ahead of the average person .. simply because of their training; and also their experience.
Obviously, you have never been in a police unit or you would understand what I’m saying.
I’ve heard of some. Been involved in some.
This was one was righteous.

You’re wasting your time.
.
NEVER ..!!!!!!!
Absolutely correct...our training sessions over the years specified the 20 foot rule (that's about 1 car langth)...if you let the perp get any closer than that, chances are very good that he will get to you...
On the rare occasions that I have been stopped by the police I realize that the first thing in the cops mind is “Am I a threat to him.” Bearing this in mind I have my concealed carry, drivers license, and insurance card in my left hand before he approaches my car. My right hand will be on the dashboard. My window will be open.
The first thing I say is, “I am armed” and then tell him where the weapon is. I am courteous and respectful. Without fail they have also been courteous and professional.
Twice, because of my attitude I was not given a ticket.
Yes, we had a case in Fairfax County where one officer shot and killed a man who was trying to surrender following the cops being called to a domestic dispute. Three other officers there said the shooting cop was wrong.
That’s the one! Thanks very much.
