Learned helplessness. Theodore Dalrymple describes the same phenomenon among the white underclass in England. “Pick up the trash? No way! Let the government do it!”

And what's with all the teens, especially the boys? Too lazy to find a job?

No, not necessarily "too lazy". But not imbued with any work ethic, either.

This is a "family" that has been bred and raised on dependence -- an artifact of liberal "charity" and The War on Poverty.

I have been traveling to NYC two to three times a month or more for many years, and I use to live there during my prior life. Since I don't travel to NYC every day, I take notice of the changes because I see them in bigger chunks rather than in small changes that are barely visible from day to day. The biggest change that I have observed over the last few months are the number of panhandlers and street beggars, who now seem to be every place in every neighborhood. Perhaps because of the competition, they now seem to be more aggressive in that they approach and beg, rather than passively wait with their hands out. I haven't seen this level of activity since the David Dinkins and the early days of the Gulliani administrations.

They don’t work because there is no incentive to work. Democrats would prefer these kids buy into the Socialist Holocaust that enslaves and bribes them to not work so as to keep them on ice for every election cycle to ensure they vote Democrat. People who pay taxes in that city are the biggest suckers going. Besides Federal tax, they also have to pay city tax and local tax which means the city is taxing them twice on top of property tax and everything else they buy which is all taxed. Meanwhile you got pigs like this who do nothing but breed and eat who don’t lift a finger and get everything for nothing. I have no sympathy for these welfare breeding cows but I also have no sympathy for voters in that city who always vote overwhelmingly liberal, who held more fundraisers for Obama than any other city. Obama when he was running sometimes visited NYC 4 times in ONE week, that’s almost every working day! The city that lost 3000 people to an Islamic terror attack only 7 years later holds massive fundraisers and elects a radical Islamic agent for President.

“There’s no privacy,” Hollis said.

OH gee, maybe you should have thought of that before you had 12 children!

Why don’t you and your brood move the England, maybe they’ll throw out the Queen and put you up in Buckingham Palace.

They don’t appear to be malnourished.

They may have subpar residences but they are not exactly homeless as they have a roof over their heads. Also how many absent fathers are there to this one family alone? Its a shameful disgrace. Lieberals will hardly confess their mistaken ideologies as failures.

If anyone else is in the dark about “Cluster Sites”, this PDF document, beginning on Page 4, will illuminate (slightly) the can of worms that is NYC homeless policy.

Some is the result of bureaucratic incompetence, some the fault of court decisions & “settlements” and some due to long standing rent control policy.

Too bad some of the “Community Organizers” are unable/unwilling to organize a “Clean-up, Fix-up Day”.

Perhaps NYC should do like Habitat for Humanity does - require prospective tenants to spend X number of days working on a “Clean-up, Fix-up” crew before moving in.

Then, after moving in, regular inspections of their apartment and participation in these “Clean-up, Fix-up Days” should be required for continual residence in the apartment.

"blame...Republican"

I am 65 years old, and since I began reading about societal problems in my teens, there has not been one societal problem that liberals have not blamed conservatives for.

In the liberal (deranged) mind, no non-white person is ever responsible for creating the dire predicaments they find themselves in. It's always nasty conservative Republicans who are the problem. This will never change.

Cut the apron strings and they’ll be forced to get a job and won’t have time to make a dozen kids.

How about opening up some Section 8 housing in nearby Chappaqua, there is a dearth of diversity there. I’m sure the Clintons would love to have them as Neighbors.

But, But, but .............. that cannot ever be so. Only when the WH is occupied by a Republican do we have large numbers of homeless people. Then college kids go outside with their cardboard boxes and sleep there for a few nights to empathize with the homeless - who those mean GOPers are responsible for.

The media will start running stories about 30 minutes after a Republican is inaugurated as president on 01/20/17.

Excuse me... let me build you a 15 bedroom/ 16 bath mansion on the 100 lakefront acres I have. I want you folks to have privacy. Also I’ll build you a fully stocked WalMart (and it will have free merchandise for you any time you want to buy anything) next to it. I’ll throw in a Ford Transit 350 15 passenger van, a Ferrari, a 22 foot boat and 100,000 dollars so you can be happy. The cars and home will have free insurance, too.

By mid-December, the homeless census reached a record 59,068 — nearly the population of Utica, city records show.

Wow, Utica must really suck.

Where are the fathers?

I heard a joke a few years ago (very Non PC). A census taker asked a black mother about the names of her 15 boys. The mother said, "They are named JaQwan?" The census taker said, "JaQwan?" The mom said, "Yes, all of them. I just yell out and they'll come." The census taker asked, "What if you want one of them instead?" "Easy," the mom said, "I just call the one I want by his LAST NAME."

Good point. Love Dalrymple, by the way, he’s brilliant.

Maybe the Dems should change their icon JFK’s quote to “Ask not what your country can do for you, just DEMAND!”

That struck me too. Where did those kids come from? Common sense should tell us that there is a father or perhaps multiple men involved. Where are they and why is she apparently getting no financial help from them????

And why isn’t a 23 year old working to help out the family??? Geez Louise...........

Yep. Without getting too graphic you wonder how so many children are conceived with no privacy for such things..,.....
