I don’t know. I do remember us asking our biology prof about “poke salad”, probably because of the song.

He told us it was actually more popular up North. He said they cooked it in water to boil the poison out of it, then poured that water off. He said then they added butter or other spices to it. He also said it had very little food value except for whatever was added to it.

Also it was not a serious poison. It would give you an upset stomach was about all.

I just looked it up... based on what you said. Poke is not the same as arugula at all. I think I was confusing poke weed with Hawaiian poke, something totally different. Thanks, you taught me something today.
