What I’m talking about is “not getting knockoffs” in regards to Apple products because there are always problems with them. If it is an Apple approved vendor, then that’s okay, as they have been checked out and they have to meet standards that Apple requires.

Yea, I agree that the knockoffs generally aren't especially reliable. StarTech and Monoprice are the two most common ones I've seen, and they're iffy. (I work in AV and use different Macdaptors 2-3 times a week or so.)
So, if you can afford it, it's much better to spend $40-50 (each) on genuine Apple accessories! Don't forget you need a different MacDongle each time you buy a new computer/laptop!
