How our schools are miserably failing our boys
The New Hampshire Union Leader ^ | February 23, 2015 | JENNIFER L.W. FINK

Re-entry after winter break has not been easy for him. The rules and restrictions of school — Sit Still. Be Quiet. Do What You Are Told, Nothing More, Nothing Less. — have been grating on him, and it shows. His teacher recently emailed me; she’d noticed a change in his behavior (more belligerent, less likely to cooperate) and wanted to know if there was anything going on at home.

My guess, I said, was that he was upset about having to be back in school after break. I was right.

The lack of movement and rigid restrictions associated with modern schooling are killing my son’s soul.

I think she's at least partially right. I've got a young son going through the same exact thing, and lack of discipline is not the problem. It's the public school process itself that's beating him down.

BS. Learn self discipline at this age or oftentimes it’s never learned.

Public schools have become the institutional equivalent of a giant Skinner box in which subjects are confined for hours a day for social conditioning. The left loves to use institutions where it has compulsory control over human bodies such as schools and the military where it can apply its latest theories on the transformation of human nature.

Since leftists are in charge of the schools and many of these leftists are feminists and many of these feminists are lesbians, it is hardly surprising that the natural exuberance of prepubescent males is despised and curbed. The solution has been known to us for some time: vouchers.

Vouchers would enable parents to put robust boys into all boys schools with heavy doses of athletics, competition, and independence born of receiving the consequences of actions. None of this can or will exist so long as leftists incarcerate our kids.

It is society today which are bringing boys down. They are told how they should not play rough games, they are treated like girls, and they are being used as pawns by the left wing for their social experiments.

Many boys today have become big wussies. They get a scratch on their knee and mother or the teacher will give a band aid and an ice pack. Just tell the boy to get up and get on with it.

My youngest plays soccer in a team and when these boys get hurt they all have to get on one knee and stop the game. Why? Because the kid fell over and he doesn’t even have a scratch on him. Parents, mostly mothers on the side gasping and it is pathetic.

If they boys want to fight then let them so long as things do not get out of order.
When we were in school boys fought all the time to see who was the toughest kid, today boys are being raised to be the most girlie boy.

We went through this with my oldest child. The books/readings were “vagina-centric” (a term coined by my husband). By that, I mean the protagonist was always female and the story line “feminine”. This is what we did: we allowed him to read whatever he chose (and it was usually war history). We signed him up for Krav Maga in early middle school. The exercise was intense and he absolutely LOVED it. Plus, he could take the class 7 days a week if he liked. We also made a rule: “don’t ever start a fight or throw the first punch BUT if someone hits you, you are allowed to defend yourself”.

I will tell you this, Timber. It gets better in high school. High school is where the more alpha males (wether through athletics or personality) dominate the school. The teachers accept the alpha males more, too (both male and female). This has been my experience.

I can’t imagine your frustration. As a guy, I quit my profession and am homeschooling my boys several years now. My wife can just support us - likely not an option for most people!! Can’t live with a lot, but if you can scrape it....

Seton Catholic Homeschool....well accredited, even everything is graded by professional teachers through high school so no worries about your own abilities or lack thereof. Pray on it. Keep him male!

What do they expect from kids? When we were in grade school, there was recess 2x a day plus after lunch you could get outside to run around and go nuts to burn off energy. Maybe by forcing them to sit it manifests as some hyperactive disorder so the school can claim it and get more money. Who knows with those freak people in charge now?

“They just want to make boys big wussies.”

Boys are viewed as defective girls.

It's the public school process itself that's beating him down.

It's not just the boys. My daughter who is bright and started off with determined motivation to get good grades is now a sophomore in high school and they have really knocked the stuffings out of her (metaphorically, not literally).

It has been devastating to watch her demotivation and bitterness develop due to what she CORRECTLY perceives as the complete irrelevance of the "educational content" the school is providing.

Common Core is a big part of the problem. So is the complete lack of coursework aimed at cultivating actual life/job skills.

I feel for her.

Common Core has a lot to do with it.

True.

During my work I have gone to schools only to see boys go to the front desk to get a band aid. A band aid for nothing there.

There is a teacher who has a boy near me and she has raised him to him being a big wuss now.

My youngest by had two friends over, one friend had go home and just before he went he came to my son and the other boy and said. “I have to go so give me a hug” My boy turned to him and said “HUH we don’t hug each other when we go home”
These boys are aged 12 and 13.

Later in the week I saw his mother and told her the story and she replied and I kid you not.”yes they are getting that age they don’t hug as much”

HUH don’t hug as much, er boys just don’t get all touchy feeling when they go home, tell your kid to man up as he’s a big wuss.

Common core was stupid. I live in the best school district in the state, St Augustine in St Johns County and all kids saw their grades slip lower.

They did not even implement it at K level first but put it in to all grades.

The Obama government is worried about disaffected Muslim boys, not disaffected American boys. The first group is more important to Obama.

Not surprising either that the best school district here in Florida is one of the most republican counties in the state either.

Watch any television show, not just soap operas, such as police shows etc. and the men are turned into metrosexuals, and sensitive types but they're all armed with five o'clock shadows showing their virility which is not to be confused with their vulnerability. The hero cop is often a women, there is almost always a black male or female in overall charge, and there is invariably a homosexual relationship somewhere.

The left looks at television the same way it looks at the schoolhouse, a place to shape human nature-it takes a village after all.

I think the real “soul killing” element of the school room is that kids go from being the center of attention at home to just another kid at the school. It’s not their souls that are suffering, it’s their egos. Egotistical kids do NOT react well to not being on stage every minute. And those alpha male types do everything they can to disrupt class so that all eyes will be on them again. In the end, it’s still the girls and the quiet boys who suffer, because you can’t pay them any attention, you have to spend all your time dealing with the outraged ego of the adolescent narcissist.

My oldest son was not a great student and ,frankly, would have preferred to be outside running around rather than sit at a desk. I remember when he was in third or fourth grade having a conversation with his female teacher and telling her that I was worried that he just wasn’t motivated. Her response was “he’s a real boy and he would rather be on the playground, that’s normal”. Well, he didn’t become a good student until college and now has a family and a wonderful job. He’s 42 and he’s still a “real boy” who prefers to play outside.

The only possible solution is to remove children from public school altogether. Homeschool them. Put them in parochial school or on-line school. But that is only logical for people who actually care about their children other than as fashion accessories and daddies trying to relive their high school football careers. Precious few Americans actually care a happy damn about their kids in reality. That is why so many millions are still in public school.
