Looks like I need to make reservations somewhere between Myrtle Beach and St. Simon's Island for late August 2017.

Supposedly Hopkinsville, KY, is the best spot for viewing the eclipse in 2017. But of course everything depends on having a clear sky.

I was in Europe at the time of the 1999 eclipse and the day started very overcast. Fortunately the sky cleared just enough that I was able to watch the total phase of the eclipse.
