Two officers, one a 41-year-old St. Louis County police officer the other a 32-year-old officer from Webster Groves were shot on March 12, the Webster Groves officer left with a bullet lodged by his ear.
A weapon was recovered when Williams, 20, was arrested, and officials have tied that weapon to shell casings obtained at the scene.
St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch said during a press conference Sunday that Williams had been a demonstrator at the protests held but may not have been firing at the police:
The evidence we have supports the charge that he may have been firing at someone else and struck the police.(continued)

Probably you are right; Occam's razor was proposed for a good reason.
True; I was looking at their product line just this morning. However the alleged shooter was on probation for receiving stolen property, and I don't think he'd be able to officially buy the firearm recently with this kind of criminal background; and before that he'd be too young (<18.) It would also require specific use in mind - and he now insists that he had none. Gangbangers have not much need of long guns, as they are not concealable. Unfortunately, the linked article does not explain what weapon was recovered; they just say that it matches the ejected cases.
I was listening to the press conference with one hear while on the computer. Here is what I heard
$300,000 bail. WTF! for a two cop shooting? Weak
Handgun was the weapon and he may have been shooting at somebody else. From a window of a house at a 100 plus yards distance. WTF! Mr. GG2 is a weapons expert and a shootist. He said he might be able to make the 100 yard plus shot but it would be a hail Mary. Especially in the dark. It was a .40 cal and that’s what Mr. GG2 packs. If a cop had got hit in the face with a 180 grain bullet it would be instant death. Even if it was an FMJ. Sounds more like a .22.
I’m waiting for the results on the ballistic test to see if this guy’s gun was even the weapon.

If you use a .40 cal. for squirrel it’s a little over kill.
LMAO!
True story! Shooter X military op. with mode .22 cal. rifle at 100-125 yards, maybe night scope. Dumb a$$ with hand gun at 100 yards in dark NFW. Please folks wakey, wakey, can you say FALSE FLAG! Your tax dollars once more at work.
Funny how he shot two of the police and so nearly fatally!! Couldn’t have done “better” if he’d tried.
I have to high five that theory. Some gumby gang banging yute takes out two cops with a handgun at 100 plus yards. Not in a million years. This smells like an operator with a .22 long rifle to me. I’ll be on pins and needles to see if the ballistics match that kid’s weapon. I’m skeptical.
He was shooting at the cops, not two cops specifically. If you shoot at a large enough group of people at 100 plus yards it is not too surprising you hit at least one of them.
Spray and pray only works with an Ak47.
So you want me to live in state of suspended disbelief that that this ghetto gumby accidentally managed to hit two cops who were wearing vests and magically managed to avoid hitting them in the vest just because they were in group. Okey dokey. :-)
Yeah, but squirrels are hinky, especially if you have a bird feeder. Don't they DESERVE to be overkilled?

I once shot a Rockchuck at a 100 meters in Colorado mid day, sunny , down hill at over 10,000 ASL. 158 gr. JHP .38 SPL.+P+ Smith model 14 Combat Masterpiece 4 in. barrel. My hunting buddy said WTF was that. I never told him it was a splash hit (round hit rock in front of target) and fragged said varmite. Now I have been around guns all my life and in many strange places around the world and I would have been hard pressed to make the shoot.
Did you see the pic of this cretin holding his pants up? What are the chances this amoeba has the range time or knows a ballistics chart that could turn him into Shaft? LOL!
This can be a really sinister story.
Was he attempting to shoot anti-police protesters in an attempt to ratchet up another wave of riots? Making it appear, at least initially, that police were shooting protesters?
If so, we're talking old-style KGB type tactics. It would indicate that someone, or some organization, is coordinating activities behind the scenes.
Yes! But with .177 Gamo not a .40 cal. Be veery, veery careful were hunting squirrels! “Elmer Fudd”
NFS Tonto. You gotta clue. Me too.
Just for completeness of the discussion, here is the chart:
As you can see, the shooter at 120 yards (off this chart) has to hold over the target like 15-16 inches. Note that his vertical aim was consistent within, say, 3 inches (shoulder, cheek.) Just dumb luck? Who knows... we don't want another sniper on a grassy knoll, but we may well have one, plus a dumb kid who wouldn't be able to hit a proverbial barn from that distance.
Bingo we have a winner. Chris Kyle this kid ain’t. He would be lucky to hit center mass at 50 ft. These little gang bangers fight close up and personal. They are not snipers and this was a sniper.
