My neck of the woods. The wildlife people are full fledged power tripping gastapo wannabes. Once there was a bald eagle injured by an automobile found on the side of the road. It happens. The sheriff’s department and Fish an Wildlife, USFS, launched investigations, detectives were called in, and all to find who hurt the eagle so they could prosecute the person. The paper was filled with angry people calling for serious penalties for injuring the bird and calling for the person to turn themselves in. The local law enforcement even announced if the person turned themselves in they would not face felony charges.
Who the hell is going to report an injured bird when you’ll be thrown in jail. The 3 S principle is strictly adhered to. Shoot, Shovel, Shutup.
A lot of that sounds like makework to justify a government bureaucracy...
I had on owl or hawk fly into the side of one of my trailers on the Skyway (troll road outside of Chicago)a number of years ago (past statute of limitations). Nothing I could do about it. I saw something large fly up then heard a thud.
