The “new thing” in my area is to go into a store bathroom, shoot heroin and OD.

If we executed dealers and users we would all be better off. Especially the people around them.
or perhaps we could section off a part of western Alaska. You get caught you are deported there. If you are found outside the zone you are shot on sight. Same with DUI.
Sounds harsh but substance abuse is an endless cycle of violence and misery for way too many people.
Have you tried it yet? All the cool kids are doing it.
Plus it's respectful for your family. They don't have to deal with the mess.
