lol. Tommy Dorsey denied the story was true. he said he gave up Sinatra for so cheap because it was becoming a headache. He said two gangsters visited him but ended up asking for his autograph. I tend to believe the Godfather version.
You misunderstand.
I think William Shatner is tied as the greatest singer ever on Earth.
Really.
Me too. Sinatra was a great talent, but those were interesting times, no doubt.
There will only ever be one Chairman of the Board.
Happy Hundredth, Frank.
I don’t know a lot of them had Italian ancestry because they changed their names. thanks for the link.
Thanks for posting that link - I’ve never seen that video.
Frank will always be #1 and that song is one of my Frank favs. I am very fortunate to have that track burned direct from the studio master tapes.
Amen Brother!

I remember a Danny Thomas Show episode where the daughter had a major crush on Dean and thought he was the coolest guy ever. Danny brings Dean to the house to show the daughter that he's just a regular guy. Except Dean manages to make everything cool. Danny even slaps his shoulder to sit up straight, because Dean was slouching and making dream eyes in a very cool manner.
I listen to Pandora quite a bit; and, I have a Frank Sinatra "channel" on my list. The first time I was playing that channel when my hubby was home, his comment was; "Man, that guy had no range." I started listening a little more carefully, and I could understand what hubby meant. I think, though, that he did have "style", which is difficult to quantify -- it is a quality, a personality.
Anyway, I heard stories from my father about his brother-in-law, whose family owned a local bar, and the time a couple of mafia types came in and informed him he WOULD be putting Sinatra on his juke box. Also, the rumor that the guy who got a horse's head in his bed was the producer of a movie Sinatra wanted to be in; but, this guy didn't want him. Don't know if that one is true or not; but, he seemed to have mafia friends who made sure he found success.
My Italian grandfather — also named Frank — loved Sinatra. I remember being at my grandparents’ old row home in Philly, listening to Fridays with Frank with Sid Mark on the radio. Right up until my grandfather’s death, he would sing his favorite Sinatra tunes. Even in his final days in the hospital, he was singing the opening to Nancy: “If I don’t see her each day, I miss her,” which held greater significance in that my grandmother passed a few years before. When I hear Frank, I think of my Pop and Gram, and I am sure Sinatra has left many others with similar memories.
In the mid 80s I had a small audio studio which had a spectrum analyzer. Sinatra sang off-key on many occasions and I had the tapes and charts to prove it. In the early 90s there was a house fire and all of it was destroyed. I did not bother to recreate all of that but I can swear before you and God that what I said is true.
Does the mob really work that way? Pretty sure they liked his singing and he liked their company. Probably they invested in the same businesses, but I doubt he was a made man or went to the mattresses with them or wacked anybody for them.

Ping!
Good Lord what a fantastic pic! 5 of the greatest STARS, (REAL stars, not the kiddies running around today in Hollywood thinking they are something special), ever all together! (I’m guessing this photo was taken in/around 1969? Anyone know?) Hard to believe they are all gone. Their era seems like it happened only yesterday........
Not sure I agree with the no-range assessment, but his real strength was in his phrasing. Basically, his voice was a jazz instrument.
