How Donald Trump’s man in Iowa plans to mess with the GOP — and win

DES MOINES — After years of flamboyant flirtations with presidential politics, Donald Trump is devising a genuine game plan to try to prove that an unfiltered showman can become a vote-getting presidential candidate.

It begins, appropriately for the star of TV’s “The Apprentice,” with a key hire — a longtime Republican operative who is causing a stir in GOP circles here as Trump’s man on the ground and the architect of a strategy designed to upend the traditions of the all-important, first-in-the-nation caucuses.

The article goes on to say:

... several new polls that place Trump near the top nationally and in New Hampshire are forcing people to take notice. Although those results could be a sign simply of name recognition, Trump is signaling, through the Laudner hire and other moves, that he intends to wage a serious campaign. He has hired 40 paid campaign staff members around the country, including eight in Iowa.

Good article.

Nice suggestion, but Perot was a third party candidate.

Trump is competing (and competing well) for the candidacy of the GOP.

That is a signicant difference.

Wait a minute. The current wisdom with some on this site is that Trump will flirt with the race for about 15 more days and come out and endorse Hillary. He just wants some attention. And he is a clown. And he is dumb.

Trump is absolutely right about bringing back jobs to America, and Trump is absolutely right about defending our border.

Nobody else is saying a single word, about either topic.

Just Trump. Go Trump.

Anything is better than Bush versus Clinton.

The reason their was a Perot in the first place was that Bush broke
his promise “read my lips, no new taxes”
And then passed new taxes.

In addition, Perot picked up almost 20% of the dis- satisfied voters
Bush left on the table.

My suggestion. Don’t break promises and don’t leave votes on the
table and you won’t have “another Perot”.

What did Trump say about the latest SCOTUS rulings?

He might be dumb (I don’t think so), and he might be bombastic, but I could see him doing some real damage to the GOPe and its multitude of clown car candidates, so his candidacy is a big plus in my book.

I tend to agree. Trump would be refreshing change after Obama.

I mean Trump is a conservative so he must have views on:

1. The ACA ruling that completely ignores the Constitution.

2. The Fair Housing Act disparate impact ruling that also ignores the Constitution with the added benefit of ignoring reality.

3. Then the SSM ruling, must have a pro-family, pro-traditional marriage candidate like Trump fuming.

Crickets and you don’t know how your personal most favorite candidate is doing?

Troll much?

Yep, split the Right for Jeb first, then Hillary.

Not quite. Perot ran against Bush because he’d rather see a Democrat named Clinton in the WH. Why? What did Perot have to gain from a Clinton that a Bush just wouldn’t provide?

Trump ...

Trump: If I win the presidency, my judicial appointments will do the right thing unlike Bush’s appointee John Roberts on ObamaCare.

and

“Once again the Bush appointed Supreme Court Justice John Roberts has let us down. Jeb pushed him hard! Remember!”

Correction!

Trump is not competing for the GOP nomination for president.

He is negotiating for it. There is a big difference. So far he has sucked in Hillary and Univision onto the chessboard. Like a bunch of amateurs they took his bait and in the process he is all alone at the top getting millions of dollars in free publicity.

The WaPo misquoted him in this article. He never said...Mexican immigrants are “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.” He said that because we had porous borders criminals and rapists are getting through in massive quantities. Big difference!

So now Trump is sucking in the WaPo,Hillary, and Univision. He is opening the negotiations and if you have read the “Art of the Deal” whether you want to make the deal or not you first have to pound the terrain to see who the opposition is. In the process he is sucking all the oxygen from the republican and democrat wannabes. This is all by design.

Trump is in the first round of a bull fight where the bull is his opposition and he is in the process of digging in those small spears in the bull’s back starting a slow bleed. He is jabbing, jabbing, jabbing just to see what the opposition looks like.

Then we have Trump on Foxnews saying that Univision’s apology to Trump is not accepted, that he is going to sue them for breach of contract, and for defamation. Trump knows media and business and right now he is being masterful.

If he is not sincere we will soon see. If he is, he is now demonstrating that he can handle himself and twirl the media and his opponents around his finger.

He is getting all the opposition to give him millions of dollars in free publicity and quite frankly he is saying all the right things.

Let’s see what he comes up with. If you have not read “The Art of the Deal” get it and you will understand what Trump is doing. Don’t underestimate the guy who knows how to fire when things are not going right and who knows how to get things done.

As I said let’s see how the negotiations go. It will be fascinating. So far you get the impression he is totally in control and everyone else is reacting off of him. If you get them to react, react, react they will lose. Look how quickly the Univision executive apologized less than 24 hours after he opened his mouth. The executive now realizes he will cost his company tens of millions of dollars hence the apology.

As I said let’s see what the matador comes up with.
