I think that is the worst picture of the Hildebeast I have ever seen! The look of pure evil.

At the time of the Founding, Americans drank per capita at least twice what we do now, and quite possibly 3x as much.

Having at least one drink in a thirty-day period is the new definition of being a drunk?

There would be more heavy drinking in PA, but for ...

... which makes it too damn expensive & inconvenient to get a swerve on!

D.C. is 2nd and I bet 99.999% of the booze is drank by Boehner.

“At the time of the Founding, Americans drank per capita at least twice what we do now, and quite possibly 3x as much.”

That was for several reasons. There was no running water and much water was not safe to drink. Drinking the local water could spread typhoid, cholera and other diseases. Beer and whiskey were cheap. There was no tax, it was available at every tavern and store. Or you could make it yourself.

The Whiskey Tax of 1791 caused the Whiskey Rebellion.

There were also no drugs available. Home remedies included alcohol as a painkiller etc.

I’m disappointed that Texas isn’t higher. I’ll have to do my bit to remedy that.

As a homebrewer in Wisconsin, I take full responsibility for inebriating my neighbors, my friends, a few relatives, and the occasional stranger walking by on brew day.

Didn’t say there weren’t reasons for the heavy drinking, just that it was a fact.

Having lived in the three New England states on the list I can assure you that these numbers are low. In order to live in VT one needs to drink any day the sun comes up. When the sun comes up. And throughout the entire day.

No doubt, by the neo-prohibitionists.

Last time I was at a doctor and described my drinking habits, he told me, next time just put down "no" when it asks if your drink., and I definitely drink more than one beer a month.

Thomas Jefferson planted peach trees throughout his plantation so he could make moby, kind of a peach-flavored liquor.

Proud to help Colorado maintain a high ranking where this vital statistic is concerned.
We have Coors in Golden and a ever expanding number of boutique breweries (many of them excellent), as well as some great wine being produced in western Colorado. Then we have the other stuff that John Denver sang about in 'Rocky Mountain High' but I don't go there ...

No doubt, the colder a climate is, especially if it has an oppressive government, the more drinking there is.

And it’s totally different from the Caribbean or beach type drinking, which is happy drinking...not drinking to go numb.
