Is Trump America’s “Strongman”?

When it comes to public confidence in American institutions, conditions rival those of California’s epic drought. According to a recent Gallup poll, the American public is mired in a now eight-year period of historically low confidence in traditional institutions, including government, banks, religious organizations, and the news media. Only the U.S. military and small businesses enjoy greater public confidence than in decades past. Congress, no stranger to dismal approval ratings, “enjoys” strong confidence from only eight percent of Americans.

Interesting.

I'm not sure I agree with this, but it's an interesting theory anyway.

Next year we’ll learn his real game...

Not sure if Trump is it, but America's demise will lead to the election of a Franco or worse here. Part of it is the loss of good jobs as you always are pointing out. But more than that, there is the destruction of culture, destruction of the military, and the general disgust for the leftwing gun grabbers, flag grabbers, etc.

There is also an interesting set of right wing entitlements like farm subsidies that go far beyond what you can imagine, lots of people collecting out in my rural area albeit small amounts.

Along comes a dictator who promises to restore the culture, Amerixa's leadership in the world, the good paying industrial jobs, and keep the entitlement gravy train going. That person would easily beat any candidate that the left promotes.

Ross Perot was in a third party.

Trump is running for the GOP candidacy, and doing pretty darned well so far.

He’s also more likable. And none of his “competitors” have thus-far stood up to actually compete with Trump on real ideas. They’re criticising Trump, which actually makes him stronger.

This is a very interesting race

Is Trump running as an independent?

How will he “split” the GOP vote?

Why make the comparison?

Yes I know, Trump has some liberal ideas...and will head in that direction when he can ,

But

I no longer trust mainstream republicans...they have sold out to whatever it is they have sold out to.....

Whereas, TRUMP is his own man, and I don’t think he’s a puppet to anyone.

If Trump gets the nomination, which I doubt, I will vote for him.

“Trump is gaining ground on his competitors not for what he says — which clearly is intended more to provoke tempers than stir genuine debate”

What he says can provoke tempers or debate, and most choose to have their tempers provoked. That is not a failing that can be assigned to Trump, it is a method of evasion chosen by his opponents and critics to avoid debate.

“The field is wide open for a Republican candidate who recognizes the value of a bold leadership style, but who couples it with a more serious understanding and presentation of solutions befitting an American President rather than a Latin American Strongman.”

How did the “Latin American Strongman” metaphor being applied to Trump in order to explain his appeal, and to smear his appeal, and to de-legitimatize his appeal, all of a sudden appear as an established concept being played out? Yes, a very pro-American leader who arises and shows strength is all of a sudden a budding banana republic dictator. I wonder why such perceptive analysis was never done on Obama.

Trump is promoting Trump. Next year we’ll learn his real game..

Perhaps, but then one could say that anyone saying what we want to hear is only promoting themselves.

regardless of what his end game is, the dialogue is refreshing....

No.

GHWB split "the GOP vote" all by himself, and besides, the GOP does not and never did own those 19 million votes.

NOBODY owns my vote, buddy, and certainly not the GOP.

H. Ross Perot was too little (sorry) and too soon. The pressure of where he got himself to proved too much.

Now, the situation that called him to the colors is much, much worse.

I don't know if Trump is sophisticated enough to do what he must to win. But it's much more likely that a nationalist could be elected in 2016 than it was in 1992.

Think about the fact that a paranoid dwarf who could only communicate through the MSM, at a time when a real third way was unimaginable to most voters, got nineteen million votes against a POTUS and a state governor.

That hidden river of discontent for the uniparty was amazing, and it has only grown since then,

Easy way for the other Republicans to silence Trump: Come out AGAINST illegal immigration.

But so far, they seem to have a MUCH BIGGER problem with Trump than they do with the 30 Million Illegals, or the death of the woman in San Francisco.

Hopefully you mean 2017. As it is, I’ll fight him then, if necessary, on things like guns, taxes, etc. - while going to South Texas once in a while to FINALLY see the wall being built.

The GOP is splitting the GOP. Trump is uniting this country on an issue nobody wants to talk about.

Pray America is waking

I heard Trump by phone on Greta last night. After repeated questioning he indicated he was not interested in a third party bid. He wants the Republican nomination. I believe he is all in. We’ll see.
