Marco Rubio blasted for ‘currying favor’ of Sheldon Adelson with online gambling ban

Republican presidential candidate Mark Rubio is under attack by a Libertarian-leaning group for his support of a bill that could be used to expand the federal government’s powers to monitor the Internet.

Campaign for Liberty, a political action group founded by former Republican Congressman Ron Paul, has launched an attack on the Florida Senator, one of the original sponsors of the Restoration of America’s Wire Act (S. 1668).

The Act seeks to roll back a December 2011 Department of Justice opinion holding that the Wire Act of 1961, the law that forbids transmitting wagers, applies only to sports and not to other online gambling.

If passed, S. 1668 could effectively end online gambling in America.

It’s a fair attack. Politicians against big government, unless it’s big government in favor of a contributor.

The bill:

appears to have a carve-out specifically for horse-racing bets, in section 3(2)(a). So it can’t even be “spun” as a principled stand against online gambling in general.

Rubberio permenantly soiled himself when he joined Schumer’s Gang against the Citizens.

One cannot be a conservative while advocating abandoning the rule of law.

What I would like to ask Sheldon is this: Mr. A, why don’t you just open up an online gambling component to your business and JOIN THEM...instead of trying to use government force to subdue your competition?

The Republicans voting against online in gambling is a sizeable chunk of why they lost the Congress in 2006. It was described as a bone for social conservatives, but I suspect the Adelson types were more behind it. For most social conservatives, it is barely on the radar.
