Last Week Tonight with John Oliver - the Public Financing of Sports Stadiums
This is a 20 minute video, but I swear it is worth every second. I laughed until I cried, realizing just how serious and not funny this is all is. I had never heard of this guy, but now I will watch everything he does. Please enjoy and let me know what you think.
He can be funny, but if you plan to watch everything he does, I hope you like extreme liberal bias
I have HBO and taped the whole first season. I watched one show and deleted the rest. Way too liberal for me.
The thing he did on televangelists....hoo boy. I never did like folks like Robert Tilton and Ken Copeland. First, he utterly skewered Tilton. Then, setting up his own ‘church’, “Our Lady of Perpetual Exemptions”. People actually donated to this ‘church’. (To his credit, all proceeds raised will go to Doctors Without Borders.)
The segment was hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. It was heartbreaking because the televangelists are taking advantage of people God cares about.
The backlash the segment has generated is making the IRS look closer at televangelists.
Yep, he’s yet another cherry picking leftist - highlights bad conservative behavior, ignores or downplays bad leftist behavior. Same as Maher, same as Stewart, same as Matthews.
I have never seen or heard of him before. I can say after watching this, for 20 minutes, everything he said was sharp, witty and 100% on target, vis a vis the topic at hand. Should be required viewing for all govt agencies that are even considering doling out tax money for sports venues.
If you watch everything he does, you’ll find he’s liberal excitable, and frequently obscene.
OK, I take it back, I won’t watch everything he does. But this particular thing is brilliant. Yikes.
Perfect except for one thing.
The Milwaukee mayor claimed that he was wearing a Milwaukee jersey at the Great Wall of China, and a Chinese tourist exclaimed, “Milwaukee Bucks!”
John Oliver expressed incredulity.
I have no doubt that the mayor’s story was true. Lots of Chinese are huge NBA fans. NBA has been popular there and televised on Chinese television for at least 16 years.
I loved this. I completely agree with him on taxpayer money for stadiums.
I am in the San Diego area, and the Chargers are again threatening to move to LA, if they don’t get a new stadium. Well, as far as I am concerned, they welcome to move to LA.
Did you know that Scott Walker just gave them their stadium the other day?
