An unusually high number of cases of human plague have been recorded by US health authorities since April -- 11 in all, with three of them fatal, officials said Tuesday.
"It is unclear why the number of cases in 2015 is higher than usual," the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
The CDC said that having 11 cases in just the past four months is unusual...

My guess is the cause is the same as the “unexpected” increases in the cases of measles, whooping cough, entero 68, TB, etc. ....
Wasn’t it “give us your tired and hungry”? I don’t recall disease ridden

A friend’s cat had a cattle bot fly larvae removed yesterday. Insects are everywhere, which it unusual, but to be expected given the conditions.
More rodents, more fleas and flies, more plague & other nasty things.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

The Plague?
My guess was the wet weather, too.
A few scattered cases of bubonic plague are not unusual in any given year. Prairie dogs are sometimes a carrier, among other critters. Eleven cases in a month is significant, compared to the usual annual number of cases. I wouldn’t exactly start digging mass graves yet, but it is good to be aware.
Keep plenty of Thieves Oil on hand.
Prairie dog populations are extremely dense and expansive in at least some parts of the West. There was a big prairie dog die-off here this year (location on the CO Rockies), but they’re multiplying again quickly.
