My father grew up in Oakland. His house overlooked the river. He was quite the delinquent back in the 50’s while attending Conleys Vo tech. He would have kicked our backsides if we even attempted the stuff he did. Isalys wasn’t spared and that’s all I will say!!!
Hi KM!
Was it Lawn Street perhaps? It’s a small world.
My kids all have friends who go to Pitt Main and they rent these hideous efficiencies (or share a house) many in the neighborhood I grew up in. Many were mill houses built in the late 1800s and we’re falling down 30+ years ago when I moved out and got married. It’s insane what is charged for rooms there (my only Pitt grad went to UPJ).
Anyways my mom lived for a while on Lawn street, but the state took that house (it was on the bluff side, overlooking the Mon) when they blasted for the Parkway east. Their home prior to that one was in the lower Hill (Melody Tent) and my grandmother took in borders. The state (or someone) bought out that property for the old Civic Arena.
