Any woman who leaves her purse unattended in a shopping cart is asking for trouble. I have a shoulder purse, and that’s where it stays the whole time I’m in the store. I retired from NY’s prison system in 2003, and have never lost my security consciousness. When I first retired, if I saw that a woman had left her purse unattended in a cart, I’d identify myself as a retired correction officer, and tell her she was leaving herself open to become a victim of theft. Some of them were grateful, but others looked at me like I was the thief. I gave up on it after a while because some people just never learn.

Yep. Every time I go to the store I see a few purses left unattended in carts, sometimes their owners wander into a different aisle without their carts.

I usually mention it , if it isn’t inconvenient.

The responses vary. About 1/3 say “Oh good thought, thank you.” or similar. About 1/3 say “Mind your own )@#& business.”; and about 1/3 say “Que? No habla ingles.”
