Joe Average never realizes just how massive space is.
A quick, simple, and easy test to find out if someone fundamentally knows how infinite space is and how infinitesimal they are to it.
Suggest we shoot our garbage in to the sun. If they balk at the idea, they don’t have a clue.

At least one other scale model exists, because I visited it as a child.

I have a road map of the United States that's actual size.
Last summer I folded it.

I’ve always found it sort of hard to get my mind around that even though the Sun is about 109 times the size of the Earth, they are EXACTLY the same distance apart.

A pair of filmmakers visited a dry lake bed in Nevada to build what they describe as the first-ever scale model of the solar system. Hardly the first scale model. The important part the author missed is "... with complete planetary orbits."
And a good opportunity to suggest once more to look up a scale model site on the web and do some scrolling. Here's one:

I tried building a scale model of the solar system when I was in grade school. Not the planets and the orbits to the same scale. The orbits were to be to one scale. The planets would be to a different scale, with the largest just able to fit inside a sheet of construction paper. I soon realized that I didn't have enough room to get all the orbits into the model. The solar system is really BIG
