Mercola is a crackpot.

3500 calories to a pound is not a myth. it’s a mostly accurate scientific rule of thumb.
weight loss and weight gain is all about calories. nutrition is about the content of the food. they are not the same thing. obesity is a calorie issue. whether you drink juice or eat gummy bears or subsist on a diet of celery and radishes... all that matters for weight loss is that your daily “calories in” is less than your “calories out” on average over a period of time. this is a fundamental law of physics. the Law of Conservation of Energy and it’s corollary, the Law of Conservation of Mass.
Depends upon the calories....protein calories require MORE energy to burn....sugar calories require LESS energy...but, you can believe whatever you want.
Furthermore, I evaluate every doctor I read or see...Dr. Jonathan Wright has been under attack for years.....sorry...just because you are under attack by the FEDS doesn’t it make you a quack. I trust the FEDS MUCH less than your QUACK.
“weight loss and weight gain is all about calories.”
No. It isn’t. That is because your body is not a car. Your body regulates things via hormones. How those hormones respond to food depends on the type of food taken in.
There is a reason some people can eat the top off the table and not get fat, and others gain weight just walking past a bakery - and it is NOT exercise.
PS - I’m a life long runner. I get the exercise. When I cut the carbs, I dropped 30 lbs without increasing my exercise. Hmmmm....
