Not trying to defend these morons but often at these kind of events, they are handing them out and forcing them on people. People sometimes wear them just to shut up others.

On the short-lived Rush Limbaugh TV show, he did a segment on ribbon wearing. I think he came out on the set wearing all of them, and explain what some of them "stood for".
His own creation was a ribbon folded from a dollar bill standing for "deficit reduction".

I wouldnt be surprised if some of them dont question things like ribbons since theyre used to wearing what theyre told to put on by wardrobe people. And I wouldnt be surprised if they accept a brief explanation about such things if they ask about it.
