Carson and Trump on Guns

Previously, a candidate for president was considered pro-Second Amendment if he opposed onerous restrictions on gun ownership. It also helped if he liked to go hunting with guns. That was really all that was required.

But Ben Carson and Donald Trump have now upped the stakes on defending the Second Amendment.

First it was Carson, suggesting that fewer Jews would have died in Nazi Germany if their guns hadn't been confiscated by Hitler.

It's refreshing. And perhaps it partially explains why Trump and Carson are leading in the polls.

My only concern with Carson is that his viewpoints, while poignant, seem nuanced when juxtaposed to his relatively recent statements on guns needing to be controlled in urban areas. If this is something he truly believes, then he only further strengthens by support for his platform. I am cautious, however. Carson is not a typical politician, but I don’t put it past anyone to use political gamesmanship to curry support.

Remember Lurch out west on a campaign “hunting” trip asking a sporting goods clerk,
“Kin I get me a huntin’ license here?”

Its because they understand why we have the 2nd amendment. Its not for hunting. Other candidates love to buy a hunting license and pretend to support the 2nd amendment

Promoting the 2nd Amendment as a right to hunt is like promoting the 1st Amendment as a right to post on Facebook.

I still can’t believe Carson has any support and is in the race. And if he were a viable candidate, which he is not, regarding the 2nd Amendment, his statements are all over the place and I do not trust him for a second.

The 2A needs to be put in context of protecting ourselves and our families, as well as defending against tyranny. I think Senator Cruz put it that way at least once.

I think just to portray the 2A as a right to ‘have guns’ falls short of the reasoning behind our Founders’ wisdom, and makes it easier for the drive-by msm to twist the truth.

If Trump remains a stalwart on the 2A, he will mow down any and all opposition on the road to the WH.

I think it is important to remember that there was armed resistance by Jewish partisans to the Nazis. However, they were dealing with an overwhelming authoritative power and so even though they resisted forcibly with weapons, they still could not break free from Nazi control. The idea that the Jews were passive in the Holocaust is, I think, largely a historical myth.

I am not debating the fact that gun control has been used prior to genocides; rather that the Jews did not resist and had they, they would have been successful in stopping Hitler. By the time Hitler began his campaign against the Jews, he was already in power and had wide spread popular support for his actions. There was more than a decade of anti-Semitic propaganda in speeches, films and government publications prior to the actual removal of the Jewish population and the subsequent Holocaust.

Holocaust remembrance week: How armed Jews saved lives. During the “Days of Remembrance” for the Holocaust, remember the heroic armed Jewish partisans who fought the Nazis and saved lives. Washington Post. May 2, 2014.

When the founders wrote the Constitution not a one of them had to buy a license to go hunting...A hunting license was not even a consideration when the Amendment was written...The Amendment was put in there for one reason only...

Carson is for government mandating vaccines. That should disqualify him right there with every FREEPER.

Government isn’t going to mandate ANYTHING.

They need to fear us, not control us.

That’s my primary concern with Carson. He seems a little ... well ... From what I can see he is not steadfast nor unwavering in his support of the 2nd Amendment. He has some funny ideas that appear to be not well thought through for precedent and consequences.
