Daughter of Tadich Grill family says she was shunned for marrying a black man

According to Terri Upshaw — maiden name Buich — she was shunned by her Bay Area family when she told them that she was in love with NFL great Gene Upshaw, who played for the Raiders on his way to the football Hall of Fame. Upshaw, who died in 2008 from cancer, was also a black man.
Terri Upshaw says that when she told her family about their love, his race did not sit well with the Buich family, to say the least. The Post reports:

This is about a local restaurant institution the Tadich Grill in San Francisco, its about their daughter that married Gene Upshaw and the family disowning her. Lots of sad parts, but I was surprised at the comments that appear to show it is everyone bodys business what goes on within a family. I think the daughter is trying to bring down the restaurant after 30 years of being shuned for her mixed marriage. Sad on so many levels.

More often than not, it’s not the “race” that is the issue, it’s the CLASS.

When Upshaw died of cancer in 2008, the NFLPA (he was president) paid his widow 15 million dollars in deferred compensation. He was the highest paid sports union boss ever, his 2006 salary was over 6 million clams while some players with 10 years experience collect $200 per month. Bullet Bob Hayes died penniless on his sister’s couch while this woman cleans up. Just sayin’.

The Buich family is catholic I believe. This was Gene’s second marriage. There can be a whole lot of reasons for a sad situation like this.
