I have a bunch of small pistol safes in various areas of my house. Never more than 3 seconds for a gun to be in my hands.

Way too much to carry on foot. I am going cowboy on this one, one side arm, one rifle in the same caliber. My caliber of choice is .45 colt.

It's always a good idea to be prepared in any environment.

However I think it is less likely that one will be attacked while in their vehicle as opposed to when they are out and about among the general public.

Stay armed and practice frequently.

Currently here they are above the front door, behind the office door, on top of the fridge, in the closet and in the gun safe. Oh, and night stands. Not that we are paranoid or anything. Standard ranch setup really.

Thought the preppers might have fun with this.

I'm wondering how hard it would be to build something like this:

You get that operation up and running you would have a few million customers.

I know someone who has done something similar to the back of her Expedition, but includes built in dog crates.

1. presuming the attack starts while you are in your vehicle, and escape/ evasion is not likely:

One can buy ballistic films that are applied to windows.

If your car/ truck is a beater, I mean ‘classic’ — then these films could also be applied to doors on the outside, perhaps on the interior of the doors by opening them up, applying the film, the re-affixing the interior trim.

2. Storing a long gun within reach inside a passenger vehicle when the rule of law still applies is tough, and perhaps theft prone. If the rule of law is not longer in effect, then mount it where you don’t have to sweep any passengers to deploy it. Shotguns might be the best choice.

3. Remember that in real life, any firearm discharged from inside your vehicle (particularly large caliber handguns) will be deafening and painful. Unless of course you intend to drive around with foamies in your ears.

4. Shoulder holsters are quickest body draw in a vehicle, and are often counter balanced with spare mags on the other side.

5. A number of companues advertise handgun mounts under the steering column. They look pretty good; don’t have one myself.

6. Have a New York reload on your ankle (spare pistol).

7. Per the usual advice - avoid, evade, fight, but if you fight, use your pistol to fight your way to your long gun. Thus a long gun and extra ammo for all in a ‘normal’ concealed portion of your vehicle is sensible.

8. Considering you may LOSE your vehicle in the incident, make sure your BOB is there as well. With good walking boots/ shoes.

Just my 8 cents.

Nice, but where are the mags? In a firefight, seconds count.

Not too difficult. You can buy them ready made for some vehicles. One issue would be those cars that have the spare tire under the cargo space.

I’m not looking to carry around that much firepower, but can definitely see the need for more than just a handgun and a couple of extra mags. Rethinking the idea of having an AR pistol. You could keep it in a toolbox or biefcase and no one would be the wiser.

Roadblocks and barriers are a common tactic.

They want you, your vehicle, and what’s in it.

**Would you leave it parked away from you expecting somebody isn’t gonna try to take it? Steal the SUV?**

Our third (spare) vehicle, a chevy 1/2 ton, ext. cab 4/4, is 25 yrs old, looks practically worthless (clearcoat coming off, and some rust here and there, hubcap missing), but I keep it in a-1 shape mechanically. It looks like it would not be worth the risk of stealing. No tale-tale signs of gun ownership (hunting/nra stickers). I would like to someday get the parts gathered up to allow it to run ‘old school’ if need be (carburetor, points ignition, etc).
