Can you cite a reliable source for this assertion or for your claim that the networks choose the Super Bowl halftime act, not the NFL? Or are you privy to the undisclosed terms of the contract between the NFL and its network partners? As Mark Twain once wrote, so far we have a large return of speculation based on a small investment of fact.
They were under contract to CBS, who themselves were under contract to the NFL.
