Personally I'm glad that the Post Office didn't get into digital mail. Government (and don't try to tell me that the PO isn't part of the US government) often tries to monopolize anything they touch. For a while they were harassing FedEx for delivering overnight letters in addition to packages and during the Carter administration I heard there was even talk of them monopolizing fax machines.
