Trump: Christie 'totally knew about' Bridgegate
The Hill ^ | December 8, 2015 | Keith Laing with Lisa Hagen

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said Monday that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) "totally knew about" the controversial closing of the George Washington Bridge between New York and New Jersey ahead of his 2013 bid for re-election.

Christie has denied having knowledge of a decision by high-ranking officials in his administration to close lanes on the George Washington Bridge, which connects New Jersey and New York to punish the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee, N.J., for not endorsing his 2013 bid for reelection.

Trump said Monday that the New Jersey governor had to have knowledge of the lane closures because the decision was made by aides who were his former trusted allies.

"The GW Bridge, he knew about it," Trump said during a speech in Mount Pleasant, S.C. of Christie's involvement in the scandal, which has been dubbed "Bridgegate."

"How do you have breakfast with people everyday of your lives...They're closing up the largest bridge in the world....they're with them all the time," Trump continued. "They never said 'Hey boss, we're closing up the George Washington Bridge.' No, they're talking about the weather right? So he knew about it...He totally knew about it."

Trump added "I would say there's less than one percent chance" Christie was unaware of the decision of close the bridge lanes, which is the most heavily-traveled bridge in the U.S., carrying more than 100 million vehicles per year between New Jersey and New York City.

The GOP presidential frontrunner also criticized Christie for credit downgrades that have occurred during his tenure as New Jersey and appearing with President Obama to tour damage from Hurricane Sandy in the days before the 2012 election.

"I thought he was going to vote for Obama," he said.

"I think he probably did," Trump continued, saying he was disappointed that 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney met with Christie after the election.

"If Christie did that to me, I would have never spoken to him again," Trump said.

Trump said he was criticizing Christie, who he described as a friend, because "he hit me really hard" on his comments earlier on Monday about stopping Muslims from traveling to the U.S. after recent terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernandino, Calif.

Christie, who has been rising in polls in New Hampshire, said Trump's call to ban Muslims from traveling to the U.S. shows he does not have the experience that is necessary to be president.

"Again, this is the kind of thing that people say when they have no experience and don't know what they're talking about" Christie said in a Thursday radio interview on The Michael Medved show.

"We do not need to endorse that type of activity, nor should we," Christie continued. "What we need to do is to increase our intelligence capabilities and activity both around the world and in the homeland."

Pot calls Kettle black.

Trump must be watching the polls.

Latest poll shows Cruz, Christie making big gains in NH

"At a certain level, practically all polling out of New "Hampshire has found the same thing for months: Donald Trump is leading. In fact, we have to go back to June to find a Granite State poll in which the New York developer wasn’t ahead in a statewide survey.

With that in mind, the new results from Public Policy Polling probably won't surprise those who only look at the frontrunner, but the poll is nevertheless very interesting in every other way.

1. Donald Trump: 27% (was 28% in a PPP poll six weeks ago)
2. Ted Cruz: 13% (8% last month)
3. Marco Rubio: 11% (12% last month)
4. Chris Christie: 10% (3% last month)
5. Ben Carson: 9% (11% last month)
6. John Kasich: 8% (10% last month)
7. Carly Fiorina: 6% (7% last month)
8. Jeb Bush: 5% (9% last month)

All other candidates are below 5%..........."

Trump can see the GWB from his house.

I like that he called Christie after the beach lovefest after Superstorm Sandy before the 2012 election—and asked him—are you voting for Obama?

No fan of Christie, but yes its possible his aides took it upon themselves to do that lane closure without informing Christie. I think they went over this matter and didnt find Christie knew. I think Trump ought to produce some evidence.

Increase intelligence capabilities? And Muslims are inside the Department of Homeland Security. And this man thinks he has more experience?

Once again, the message from Trump: attack me at your peril; I will return the attack times 10.

“Trump must be watching the polls.”

And maybe he shares the outrage of Americans over the slaughter by Muslims in California?

Your man Cruz just sided with the Muslims, liberals, MSM, etc. Congratulations.

Actually, he was reelected in 2013 with 60% of the vote.

He is midway into his second term.

Compared to his opponent, he was the only sane choice. Which shows that 40% of NJ is insane. ;)

What’s the big deal with some bridge. They have tunnels and ferries. Trump would put a booth on there to determine your religion. That would slow things down for commuters.

Then WTH have we been doing for the last 14 years?

What could possibly be left to do?

What we have experienced is our government continually falling down on the job.

Trump is a master at getting what he wants. He goes right for the throat. Christie is a big-mouth, do-nothing governor who has swanned (well, waddled) around the country ignoring the problems of Jersey for years. It amazes me that the voters let this go on.

Trump must be watching the polls

I'm sure he is aware of the polls, but this was in response to Christie's condemnation of Trump's suggestion of a moratorium on taking in Islamic immigrants.

A suggestion I think is not only a sound one, but a common sense one.

When Carson drops out his 9% will go to Cruz.
When Rubio drops out his 11% will go to Hillary.
When Carly drops out here 6% will go to Trump.
When Jeb drops out his 5% LOL will go to Hillary, his half sister.
When Christie drops out his 10% will split 50/50 Hillary/Trump.
When Kasich drops out his 8% will go to Santorum.

The powers that be will try once again to give us who they want. May not be so easy this time around but they will keep trying nonetheless. If THEY wanted Obama policies (big government policies) stopped THEY would stop the policies.

The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man is kaput.

First he didn't know of cheering mooslimes from 9/11.
Now he is all wee-wee’d up because Trump doesn't want Trojan horses everywhere in America.

I know about NY and NJ. They got Holland, Lincoln, Goebbels, Tappan Zee, and ferries from Hoboken, Staten and other places. GWB is overrated.
