With that being said, why are you and several others here so intent on prosecuting a school employee for showing Christian compassion in providing a free meal to a 12 year old child, regardless of who pays for it??????????

Actually it was Socialist compassion, using someone else's money to buy the kid lunch.

Since when is 12 year old unable to make her own lunch that morning before leaving for school? How hard is it to make a sandwich and get a piece of fruit out of the fridge? I realize the parents ought to do this, but given that they didn't or won't do the job, this girl is old enough to make something for herself.

But then again, everyone these days is being raised to rely on the government for most everything so maybe I'm being unrealistic.

Odds are there was nothing but wine and beer in this kids fridge.

Why I sure do!

"Shelley Allen, spokeswoman for the district, said last week that students who exceed an $11 charge limit are provided something to eat, such as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and milk.

Parents are notified once the lunch bill reaches the $11 cutoff.

Bowden said if a child is over the credit limit, workers are supposed to take their tray away and dump it.

The bottom line is this is a "self esteem" issue and not a "hunger" issue, but the media ALWAYS spins this like the child is starving.

NO!

The "humanitarian" effort is that a child unable to pay for lunch after EXCEEDING their charge limit, with parental notification, is given an alternate lunch. The child is not starving!!!!

I never, ever have said to deprive children of lunch. BUT, if you want the "premium" lunch (and, I do use "premium" loosely), you have to pay for it, the school cafeteria has to cut you off at some point, or we as taxpayers will be paying for EVERY kid's lunch all year long.

Sure, one lunch is $1.70. Now multiply that by every school kid, at every school in the U.S. and tack that on to the ridiculous deficit we're running!

Just like border security. If there is no enforcement, there is no rule!

That’s enough money to cover the jet fuel for Air Force One for approximately 0.00000028 inches as it taxis toward Zerobama’s next golf outing. Haw dare the lunch lady steal what rightfully belongs to Emperor Zero!

Bowden said she offered to pay for the $1.70 lunch, but her supervisor rejected her offer.

And how about something as simple as giving her a warning that she’s not supposed to be giving away lunches unless the student is an illegal alien or a member of one of the perpetually aggrieved classes.

"Christian compassion" is giving the child the alternate lunch when they are unable to pay for the full hot meal -- not ignoring the rules.

2 Thessalonians 3:10: "For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either."

She had previously been warned for giving a student a free cookie.

Obviously after she was confronted by the supervisor over this, since the supervisor rejected her offer. Had she simply paid for the lunch herself at the time the student went through this would be a non-issue, because she would have been charitable with HER money.

I have no issue with that.

She was charitable with someone else's money, and offered restitution when she was caught. If she had paid for the lunch at the time, no one would have an issue, but she tried to sneak it through until she got caught.

A lot of times the excess food at the end of lunch is trashed. So the true cost to the school was probably zero. My mother was a lunch lady, used to bring home a lot of the leftovers, probably illegally, but I think the statute of limitations has been met.

I agree. I’m really irked at the people who are calling it stealing. They throw away whatever isn’t eaten every meal which according to the lunch lady is plenty.

Giving palatable food to a hungry child is a kindness which should be part of the lady’s job in a sane world. If a child was coming every day saying they had no money, time for a discrete call home. Otherwise its just part of normal operating procedure for an occasional emergency. These are kids! The cost of preparing and serving the food was not increased by feeding this child. The powers that be should be ashamed for trying to “hold the line” in such an indefensible way.

This is ridiculous. Absolutely not. This is not a unit item like a candy bar that could have been sold the next day to someone else. There was food that would have been thrown pout as excess and a child who was hungry.

What a disgraceful policy to shame the child and waste the food. Big Brother makes rules and you will be punished if your parents forget. This way you can live never knowing when you will be shamed again because I guarantee you kids and parents mess up from time to time.

These are small minded people flexing their authority muscles to feel big & powerful. What an example to toss the food. This is hateful and does nothing to teach compassion or responsibility let alone careful use of resources.
