I had a barred owl as a pet when I was in my early teens. Towards evening he would get playful. His game was to swoop down and GENTLY graze your head with his claws. He never did any damage.
We also had magpies, crows, and for a brief time while we were nursing him back to health, a great horned owl.
Years ago, I read an article on falconry. It mentioned a guy that had an owl (in lieu of a falcon), and would fly the owl at rodents in a nearby cemetery in the evening.
