With all the craziness going on around the world, I almost forgot my annual rant about how stupid, Socialistic, dumb, Liberal, Socialistic and stupid the NFL Playoff system is. Along with how stupid the Conferences and Divisions are, so here goes.....
Furthermore, what sense does it make that a team with a 10-6 record such as the Jets misses the playoffs altogether while two with inferior records and who play in weaker divisions (more on that later) such as the Redskins and Texans make it?
Idiotic.
Under my system, the top 4 teams would get first-round byes based purely on their record. So, Carolina, Arizona, New England and Denver (or Cincinnati based on a tie-breaker) would get first-round byes.
The teams with the next best 8 records would be the Bengals (or NE or Denver), Chiefs, Jets, Seahawks, Steelers, Packers, Vikings, and one of the 9-7 teams based on a tie-breaker.
The really cool thing about the TEFL is each team would play each other every other year.
That would generate rivalries and fans would get so see all-time greats play each other more frequently. It's a shame that great players like Tom Brady and Tony Romo only face each other once or twice in their careers.
The time has come to bring The NFL into the 21st century.
If Major League Baseball can change decades of tradition for the betterment of the game and if the NCAA can make changes to the bowl system for the betterment of the game, surely The NFL can change its system.
With the advent of air travel, there's no need to break teams into East and West and North and South. And besides, the entire NFC South is farther East than Dallas. What sense does that make?
It makes no sense at all.
Superior performance should be rewarded and merit based.
It's time to make The NFL great again and reflect the values that make America great.
Thank you. God bless you and God bless America.
While you’re at it, try to get rid of that stupid (and boring) 1 point kick after a touchdown. Make ‘em run or pass for 2 points instead.
Lol. Remember when the 8-8 CLeyland browns were in the playoffs and the 10-6 Denver Broncos were not
Worse than that. A few years ago the Seahawks made the playoffs with a 7-9 record while teams with better records stayed home.
Not as bad as the NCAABS..................
Bring in Promotion/Relegation to the NFL, worst teams get delegated to the NFL Second Division.
I dunno, I think the division rivalries are fun. The league wouldn’t be the same if you played different teams every year, in my opinion.
Why are 9-7 teams higher seeds and at home against teams with better records?
Doing that has actually made a difference in a few games.
But it shows The NFL is willing to change things for the betterment of the game.
My system would DEFINITELY better the game.
And they actually did win a playoff game.
What "betterment of the game"? DHs? Interleague play? Pitching specialists? Wild cards? How has any of this made the game better?

No.
As far as I'm concerned, you conceivably could have better divisions where the first place team has some hard games. I'm not saying that is the case with the Redskins but in that, I don't think the system is so bad.
That teams with losing records have gotten in though is worth consideration.
All in all, this year's worst records were 3-13, I think better than what was seen in the past.
This is nowhere near the biggest problem with the NFL. More problematic are (1) sterile climate-controlled stadiums with non-football entertainment (2) way too many rules that the refs can’t even keep track of, let alone the fans (3) concussion issue-related demoralization; (4)the Patriots.
A few years ago the wild card Saints had an 11-5 record and the division winner Seahawks had a 7-9 record. The Saints had to travel to Seattle for a playoff game on a Saturday. How inconvenient for the Saints and they lost that game too. Its a stupid system.
But I can't figure out how to fix it.
Probably the number one reason that the Cowboys have a terrible record at home, there is absolutely no home field advantage in Jerry's "Stay-Jum".
Interestingly, 3 of the 8 divisions reflect groupings that were together before the merger: the NFC East, the NFC North, and the AFC West.
Have you accounted or the relative strength of competition within divisions? Could not a 9-7 team be better than another with a record of 10-6 playing lesser teams? This whole fixation on season records as a measure of quality is a fairly new phenomenon and strikes me as very simplistic and immature. Then again that suits the zeitgeist, I guess.
