LOL. It appears we’ve all had to drive this way at least once. And I thought I was the only one... Twice I had no choice - the windshield was covered in ice, and the defroster wasn’t working.
Once, I spent at least an hour trying everything to clear the ice. After managing to clear a small hole in the ice on my windshield, I had no choice but to drive that way to the courthouse - either I drove that way or suffered for the rest of my life when the judge ruled against me.
Note that there are now vehicles with forward facing cameras that can be cleared of snow more easily then the windshield and used until the windshield clears.
Rear cameras work great without clearing the rear window.....
I used to have to clear the windshield on my VW bug by sticking my arm out the window and using a long handled scraper while driving.
I had a 1963 Volvo 544 that at 350K had floorboard air conditioning and no wipers. I used a t-shirt on a stick out the open window. What a deathtrap.
Here in Western Pa. if you don’t have the roof and car entire cleared from snow they can pull you over and fine you.
The cops are WIMPS....
That’s if they can see you.
Can’t have the snow protecting the car from the road salt now can we? I guess the Deputy has a brother in law with a Ziebart franchise. (Tijeras_Slim, inhabitant of Meadville 1977-1981)
Well, for heaven’s sake, the defroster wires are in the rear window, so I just back to work. Officer.
The headlights are on though.
How much damage does salt do to the upper coachwork of a car. Sweet bugger all compared to what it does to the lower sections, I guarantee!
Dumbass. Stay away from Michigan, ok?
You wouldn’t believe how lazy people are when it comes to cleaning snow off their vehicles.
Living in snow country I have seen some small holes clean.
Going to be late for anything is no excuse. With the possible exception of the wife giving birth then total freakout is acceptable.
This is a funny thread. It affirms my opinion that all of us do stupid things at some point in our lives.
I had an electric heater powered by an extension cord to pre-heat an 1970 Maverick.
I have also found that hot water from the tap does a great job of unfreezing a windshield.
I once destroyed a car engine in -30 degree weather when ice crystals blocked oil circulation. The engine never got warm enough to give hot air from the heater... Had to turn around 30 miles into a 300 mile trip (baby on board) and was lucky to make it home...
Shocked? Every winter I see several examples that are far worse.
Drove me crazy when I commuted in a Suburban and I had it completely clear of snow and ice - and some Prius-thing would pass me completely covered.
That’s some special kind of lazy.
So have I.... when you're dealing with freezing rain.
No brush needed. He could just turn on the wipers, but maybe they don’t work. It happens.
Yep, having grown up in Michigan we’re all trained to be tank drivers because we can drive a vehicle whilst looking through little tiny slits...
