EVERETT, Wash. -- A woman was severely burned Thursday evening when an Everett "bikini barista" stand exploded in Everett.
A call came in just before 5 p.m. about an explosion at the Sinners and Saints coffee stand on Everett Mall Way and Fourth Avenue West.
... Erik Hicks with the Everett Fire Department said a young barista was inside the stand when it exploded. She was able to escape the flames, but was burned in the process. The victim, identified as Courtney Campbell, was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. She is in critical condition at the hospital's burn unit.

Hicks said investigators are looking into the possibility that propane tanks being used to heat the stand exploded. The coffee stand was completely destroyed.

Reading it was a propane tank explosion.
She left two daughters.
Horrific looking explosion.
Sad situation.
I have (yet another) dumb question: What could possibly cause a propane tank to explode like that?
They have girls in bikini’s serving. They have one in Annacortes also.
Fuel Air Explosion - you can youtube it - very powerful.
Fuel (propane) leaks out and mixes at low level with air creating a very energetic mixture and something sparks it and you get a very powerful explosion.
Would be my guess
Leak by.
Gas mixing.
Heating elements or heater (it is Jan in WA after all).
Or an active spark (cig) and a dropped tank.
I can think of lots of scenarios where pressured flammables can go south. I lean towards my first scenario though as news reports indicate a portable heater was found inside the stand.
Only know what I read.
This young lady was reported as the owner of this particular stand.
Ironically the name appears to have been changed to “Bombshells”.
I guess hot coffee and cold, drizzly weather sort of go together somehow. I know suicide it said to do so.

Don't feel bad, I never heard of a "bikini barista stand" either. I don't even know what a "barista" is. I live way out in the country where people didn't give up their cassette tapes until just a few short years ago, so we are kind of out of the loop too.

Its a little Shack set up some where there is a lot of traffic and they sell Coffee,, You know Latte’s... Her stand had a Propane tank that exploded!!!
Could be from corrosion on the inside.
They are required to be inspected every so many years.
Never know when it will turn loose with you and blow.
What’s really weird is I’ve seen oilfield pipe hold the high pressure during a test and turn loose when the pressure was being released.
Well a cig is not hot enough to ignite the gas however a faulty leaky connection or a ruptured hose with gas accumulating in the bottom of the shak being ignited by the flame of the heater is more likely.
I don't know where you learned that, but it is wrong.
A cigarette is more than hot enough to ignite propane or a fuel air mixture. Do not try this at home.
