Any helicopter experts out there? Maybe someone with ties to the industry? I'm looking for statistical information about helicopter use, or someone who can point me to a web source with reliable stats.

I'm writing a report and need an acceptable estimate for the total number of helicopters world-wide or specifically in the US. It can be all aircraft or broken down into military and general aviation categories. I also would like an estimate of the total number of hours flown annually by helicopters. This could be an estimate based on the average numbers of hours flown per aircraft in a given time period that I can extrapolate to an annual period. Finally, I'm looking for an estimate of the number of helicopter pilots with a current license. I did a web search and got some numbers that varied by as much as 50%, but this might be due to comparing numbers from 20 or more years ago when the economy was better to the reduced use of helicopters today.

That would take a heap of huntin' even for someone in the industry.
You have tried all of the FedGov sites (FAA, NTSB, etc)?

I have some basic numbers at hand, but they’re a little choppy.
You’re welcome.

A helicopter is 100 moving parts surrounding a hydraulic leak.

Talking about a Chinook? It is when it stops leaking that the crew chief starts worrying.

A helo is a bunch of spare parts flying in close formation.

I heard that a helicopter is 20,000 parts flying in close formation. I’ve also heard that the CH-46 is the only aircraft that cave a mid air collision with itself.

That means it’s out of hydraulic fluid.

I appreciate the singular straight answers given on FR mixed in with the really great humor.

My Pappy always told me God did not mean for helicopters to fly. The he said God went pssst in his ear and said, “you ever see a bumble bee fly?”

I have a crush on helicopters and drones. I’ve never been in a copter but that is on my bucket list.

One of my close friend is ex-US Army helo pilot. Certified in about every helo made. He left the Army 8 years ago and can go anywhere he wants and make six figures. I think helo use is up in recent times not down based upon what he tells me - excluding military use.
