My mother in law, soon turning 89, married her one and only husband by an old world style arranged marriage, right after WWII.
She was in Italy, and he was in Los Angeles, and had served in combat in Germany. His parents had come from a certain complex of small villages in Italy.
Anyway the two families arranged their marriage, she traveled from Italy and met him, married and raised a family of six children.
The family remains in contact between the US and Italy. Two of three siblings came to the US, one remained in Italy. The oldest son of the sister in Italy died a few days ago, age 70.

That night the snow got heavier. The next day the snow blocked the door and was up to the windows. It was the Blizzard of ‘78. They were snowed in for a week. Her husband kept telling her the snow wasn’t like this all the time. Who knows if they’re still together.
