Chicago people need to know the Bay Area is not all sunshine and lollipops, like Chicago. It’s so much tougher and grittier in the Bay Area. If they can’t hack it they need to stay back in their bubble of Chicago!

WHAT! I though they had put up “CRIME FREE ZONE” signs up all over the golden state leading up to the super bowl. Guess somebody didn’t get the memo. Dang. There goes their reputation.

Wherever the location of the theft it is good that the victim was a media creature. If enough of them become victims maybe some will convert to reason.

Guess he hasn’t been following the news stories. This seems to be a fairly common crime there.

Good grief. Great writing as created by the mainstream media.
It likely was not one of the mega-expensive television cameras as the clickbait story leads one to believe.
These people cannot narrate a story to save their lives. LOL.

Last time I was in SF was 2005, and it was already noticeably dicier than my previous visit in 1998. I can’t imagine what a crime and bum infested craphole it must be now.

Middle of the tourist district near Fisherman’s Wharf. Cameras get stolen. When one takes pictures, have a companion or spouse take pictures of the picture taker, so you can catch the crime in the act. Better yet, take pictures simultaneously of each other. Or hide the camera and don’t draw attention to yourself. Camera thefts are happening everywhere (and a lot to news crews recently).

How about a fake camera with a timed detonator that gets activated when the camera is grabbed, by the yank on the strap? Maybe filled with a little willie-pete?

Let’s see how things develop but, seems like nothing clicked with this guy, to shutter his work in that area...

Everyone heard about the poor woman shot to death on the wharf —Trumped talked about it.

But few know that after the crime, news crews came to the scene and a black guy robbed TWO of them of their expensive news cameras, pistol whipping them, too.

I hear they can sometimes fence them quick and usually the buyers are porn outfits.

That might work! A lot of crime prevention comes from situational awareness. I've played tourist in other cities, and when people started looking dicey I hid my camera, and or hightailed it out of there. Doesn't matter where you go, Seattle, San Diego, New York, Philly - be aware of those around you.

One time me and a co-worker were walking not far from where this cameraman got robbed, and we saw a man counting his paper money out of his wallet while leaning against a building. Just as I was about to comment to my co-worker about what an idiot the man was, some guy ran up from behind us and grabbed the wad of paper money from the guy's hand, leaving him in shock. The thief was gone in five seconds around the corner. Be aware of your surroundings, and better yet be smarter than that victim.
